Why is Hud always bringing in so many Juco kids? Seems like it's Hard to build a program like that. Can one of you experts educate an old man?
HUD has missed on just over on 60% of the signing classes between 2013-2015. Either the players have left the program, never made it to campus or not talented enough to make the 2 deep roster by their 3rd year.
When that happens, you have to backfill with JUCO talent. Combine that with two losing seasons and some coaches look for a quick fix to spark the depth chart.
It's a risky move because if those JUCO/transfer players ( see Anthony Jennings) don't work out, you threw away the opportunity to develop a 4 year player.
These were probably guys who qualified late. Youhave to graduate from JUCO with a 2.6 in order to be eligible. Some of these guys may have needed to go to summer school to meet that standard. In some cases they may be taking spots that were thought to go to HS guys who did not qualify. Having said that I am not sure we bring in more JUCO's than the average mid major.
Based on pedigree, Miller seems as though he could be the real deal at DB
Coach Bill Snyder at K State routinely brings in JUCOs every year to help restock his roster. Seems to work out for that program. At least there's two years of eligibility for these players as opposed to the graduate transfers having only one year.
Several programs actually have success with using a lot of JUCO transfers. They can be highly skilled players that for any number of reasons didn't or couldn't make it to D1 campuses. In sun belt, I think Troy used to constantly backfill positions or load up with juco talent. They were good for a while.
