I believe the recruiting gap that exists between us and Tech is there for a few main reasons.

    1) They own us. The reason we hate it so much when they bring up the head to head record is because it's true.

    2) Program defining wins. Nothing grabs the attention more of recruits and fans than big time, P5 wins. Tech has had a boatload of these. We got Jack Squat. Nobody cares about Bowl wins over other G5 schools.

    3) We have a high school offense. Years and years of focusing on these "wide open" offenses because that is what the kids want has lead us into the bottom of the FBS barrel with Total Offense. We focus on athletes to run a Spread, then we all wonder why we can't score. Tech focuses on getting real Quarterbacks. Consequently, they stay near the top in Total offense year to year, and attract recruits.
All good points. I was recently talking to a friends son that will be a senior in HS this year and is starting to get courted by some schools. He would like to stay within a 5-6 hour drive from home and is really interested in tech because they have X amount of players currently in the NFL including X amount of players drafted over the past 2 years (I don't remember the numbers but I guess it was pretty good for a G5 program?) I think player development is a huge deal going forward. If a player decides to stay at a G5 school over P5 offers because he thinks he'll get better playing time, would he pick a school that constantly develops players or one that doesn't so much? We aren't doing a good job of that right now unfortunately.

One advantage of juco players is you can see a body of work against better competition than they faced in high school. It leads to fewer misses, theoretically.

The Tech JUCO/transfer situation was brought up for comparison... but in reality, there is no comparison. Doing it by "the numbers" means nothing. Intelligent JUCO/transfer utilization is just that - intelligent.

Once Geaux brought up recruiting as the central issue... in a thread linked to JUCO/transfers... as much as he's right... you, me and others could start piling on with additional issues that created our current football situation. I know how Hud marched himself into the hole he's in... I'm more curious if he has the skills as a head coach to march out of it - and back to the trophy podium.

"That" is what is on the 2017 Cajun football stage IMO. Can Hud earn 7 plus wins, gain a piece of the old respect back, and learn enough from his past mistakes to not only build up a great football program... but not wreck it again?

Tech uses and developes their players better...all of them...high school, juco, transfer, walk ons. They are just better at football.

I don't think anyone is arguing that. I just don't think we have good excuses for that being the case. They've had head coaches come and go, and keep playing very good football. They've out coached us forever. I'm tired of it.
