The guys doing this work move all over the country. So the crews come in and get the job done so they can go home for a while. In this case they have no drainage or base work to do. The only thing they have to do is remove the existing turf and cushion and replace. Removal should take about 3 days and the replacement will take about two weeks. Once the turf is down (about two days) the only thing they have to do is cut in the numbers, hash marks and logos. That is about 10 days. The only thing that will slow them up is if it rains continuously for a day or two. that is not common in August. An afternoon rain shower will only slow them up for the length of the shower. I figure 2 weeks give or take a few days. (I have been engineer for two football field installs and that was the case for both of them). It's amazing how fast this stuff goes down.

they should take up the old turf and use it in the tailgating areas.

(i know there are some draw backs, like hot coals falling from a pit) but it prevents the place from turning into a mud pit if it rains

    eta: or intramural area

How about replacing the outside practice field with it

I think it's a good idea to have some experience with grass surface ...the turf would get too abused from every day use and have lumps and tears everywhere increasing chances of injury...particularly ACL's, ankles, knees and Achilles from getting caught in torn carpet. To ever have our practice surface turf it needs to be when we can afford new or close to it...practicing on a 10 year old worn out turf isn't a great idea IMO.

I think they want the outside fields to stay grass. You have to have prep areas for pregame practices to simulate both types of surfaces.

After an off season project such as stadium expansion, APC construction and now the Tigue, they usually don't fix the tailgating area that they use for staging materials and dumpsters, until their paying customers have tailgated in the mud up to their knees at least once.

Well, you have to try to get them into the stadium by one means or another.
