Oil slump is likely to continue to end of decade. Note this is a regional issue. The Gulf of Mexico basin simply cannot compete with the Permian Basin prospects of West Texas and New Mexico. Of course maintaining existing production will keep the base economy hanging on but new seismic, new wells, new platforms, and new pipelines is what is needed to really improve the economy. At this stage rig workovers are still being deferred. Workovers move a well from one zone to another for those of you outside the patch. Until those type projects start again, things will remain tough. This situation in my mind is the main thing impacting athletic ticket sales and fund raising at this time. Keep in mind a chunk of out tickets were corporate based. My company used to have almost 30 and that is zero now since we now have only a minimal presence in Lafayette.

Mike you are right but outside of major political issues (sanctions etc. on a wide basis), war, or some major changes in international economic issues there will be segments of the industry that won't see change even at the end of this decade. Oilfield manufacturing tied to the drilling industry, which there is a large part of in South Louisiana, is a long ways from recovery. Literally tons of equipment sitting in yards that needs to go to work then numerous pieces idol in the pipeline to be sold before there is even a hint of producing more and then it will be slow going for a while.

I don't think most people outside of the industry have a clue how bad it really is at this moment. Many who have managed to stay employed have taken drastic cuts in compensation. I know sales people who went to straight commission and haven't sold a stick in the past year but they still show as employed. Engineers who show being engaged with a firm but in reality are hired on a project to project basis with very little work to do. Managers who have lost all benefits and had salaries slashed by half or even more. But they aren't unemployed which is better than many

My family owns a service company and we've laid off about 65% of our workforce since the down turn. When prices go down, our services are the first to get cut...

That means your business is certainly not spending precious funds on things like athletic expenditures. The folks you were forced to lay off are also not doing so.
