Football Season: Reasons to be negative.

No they didn't get lucky, they didn't win a bunch of games on Hail Mary passes, they didn't play in a terrible division and host playoff games with losing records. They went 13-3,11-5,13-3...man how did a terrible team like that get so lucky..exact W-L record of your Seahawks after their supebowl win. All coaches emphasize turnovers, maybe not in front of a microphone but that's PR not coaching. Go to any football practice at any level and the coaches are yelling about creating turnovers and taking care of the football.

It would not be a stretch to call the Saints one of the unluckiest teams in the NFL. All teams need a break or two to go their way in a game.

To me, if your main focus is creating turnovers, that means you don't think your defense can force a punt. Of course, takeaways are huge but a sound defense will give the offense enough chances to win.

That's the team that didn't need an onside kick in the Super Bowl. Thank god they pulled the foot off the gas...cause beating Peyton Manning by 60 wouldn't have been nice. I've always heard the Superdome was on an ancient indian burial ground. You don't need to tell me about breaks...I still have nightmares of not running for 1 yard.

That's my point. If turnovers are that important...you can't stop ____. A turnover is not a defensive stop...it's the bounce of a ball more times than not.

Having a defense that creates takeaways will win you games, having an offense that the only goal is to not turn it over will not. Having an offense that attacks and isn't scared of the turnovers that come with aggression coupled with a defense that gives that offense 3 or 4 extra possessions is where "winning the turnover battle" usually means you win. Simply having one less turnover than the other team doesn't not. There is a lot of truth to winning the turnover battle, depends how you do it. See Saints 2009

You can't plan on it but sometimes its (int) more effective than (a punt) because the defender just can't say no.
