Crap. These last two posts have my blind optimism surging.
I'll say it now. We're going undefeated! 2017 is the year of Ragin Cajun Football!
I really shouldn't down a whole pot of coffee in one sitting. Caffeine makes me crazy.
Watched a replay of our win over A stAte last night. We did a lot of things right to win that game, but our offensive line was brutalized by a four man pass rush. Our backs had almost no holes to run to, Jennings was lucky to finish the game.
Wish I had as much confidence in the line as most.
I've had on my optimist hat going into this year (I'm mostly employing my "when there is blood in the streets, buy buy buy" strategy) but one of the more baffling prognostications has been "Cajuns have one of, if not the best, O line in the sunbelt". Very reputable people saying this, including SBC coaches and Phil Steele.
I've tried very hard to find the evidence for this, but I'm still searching. We have some talented young lineman, but recent history says we'll have to improve dramatically just to be average.
I'm like you in that I don't know where or how the upgrade comes from last year to this. But apparently those in the football know believe it is fact. We will see. You do relieve the OL massively by running plays and play sequences that keep defenses honest. We have never IMO run an offense that keeps any defenses honest. Maybe Will Hall can add that value to the offense and help this OL be more successful.
I think it's important for JD to have some early success. Hud is so geared toward avoiding a mistake... I'm concerned he won't allow Hall to keep working the plan through some rough spots until it comes to fruition. I very much enjoy a cerebral offense. I like seeing opposing defenses get manipulated. I've never believed UL would be great by pretending we stack up better man for man. I want to see coaches use their craniums for more than hat racks.
2 different ways to see the football world.
The 1st way is to cower in the corner, afraid of the turnover, and worship the athlete to bail you out.
The 2nd way is to have no fear, always attack, and trust the players and coaches to do their job.
The 1st way leads to having 17 turnovers and being ranked 108th in total offense.(Louisiana)
The 2nd way leads to also having 17 turnovers, but being ranked 9th in total offense. (Louisiana Tech)
Excellent basic analysis. Someone said it best only within the last few weeks on here "I don't want to ever again hear the term 'turnover battle'". It's a low football IQ coaching obsession. It's like making love to a woman and bragging that neither one of you messed up your hair. Get in there, get messy and make a lot of noise! Yes, there's a chance you might break some furniture... but get in there and bust it up!
