There are huge unanswered questions coming into this season. Will Hud allow his new OC to do his job? Will Mike Lucas continue to improve the defense (not like it could get much worse after the Boise game)? How much improvement is the offensive line going to see, if any? Is Jordan Davis the answer even though Hud went out of his way to make sure Davis saw very little time on the field? Can this team replace The Prophet (TM)? Will this team be more or less a vertical threat than the Acadiana High WRECKINRAMS!!!..? (Pours one out for Mr Bitter). Will Jorge Munoz continue to get work as Hud's biggest sycophant on the staff? Will Mike Desormeaux still be the token alumni that Hud dangles in front of us, but never really utilize properly because he thinks the only way he will keep his job the way things are going? How many times are MAT and I going to take Metry and his little band of transgendered females to the woodshed this year? And now...the question the world has been waiting for...is the hot seat under Hud going to cause him to up his bicep gainzzzz, thus creating what the world will forever term "the tightest sleeves in the game" usurping Ed Hochuli once and for all?
These are the questions folks. My expectations are low...but the room for growth is there. I would be much more excited if we didn't have a coach who walked headlong into brick walls incessantly last year and in previous years. I sincerely doubt his sincerity that he will let the new OC work. I want to be proved wrong. I'm begging to be proved wrong. Even if it fails miserably...I can respect a man for getting out of his comfort zone and failing. I cannot respect a man who fails because he is too chicken ____ to even try. I'd also be much more excited if this staff was known for recruiting a bit better. This past class was terribly uninspiring, but...our much hyped classes ____ the bed and left the cupboard pretty bare going forward. The main point of positive vibes this season...is that we now have a true AD at the helm now. If the ship is capsized by years end and there seems to be no recourse...I have faith that Maggard can see it for what it is...and he will act. I would also hope if Hud shows signs of life and intelligence...or his sleeves get a bit loose...Maggard would spring into action and start the gears moving to push the program if he saw any embers start to glow.
I see the silver lining in the clouds my friends...I just hope it's not a bigger, badder storm brewing.
Setting aside how well we're stocked with player personnel... I have no true understanding of where we are in that department. My biggest hope rests with the adjustments made to the staff. If that has little to no impact... due to Hud not allowing it to infiltrate his prior offensive philosophy... we are doomed to be mediocre to poor.
We may have some peaks in talent at certain spots... just like anyone else in the SBC... but we are not so gifted across the board... as I believe Hud should have had us... that we can operate a power run offense and succeed.
If our defense continues to improve (as I believe it will)... and Hud doesn't revert to a "it's all about execution of simplicity" offense... then you can never tell what might happen. But I will say this again... we are not out-talenting our opposition this year with player personnel alone. We were never effectively stretching the width or depth of our threat the past two years... to create running lanes and open space for the ground game. My hope on offense is that our staff finds the right play calling balance that allows the most talented of our skill players a little space to exploit the opposition.
The money was there to relieve the head coach of his duties if Martin Hall wanted it in the aftermath of the video.
The money will be there again if this season tanks, and with Maggard chomping at the bit to get the funding rolling in, he won't hesitate to access that money if need be.
Hudspeth made what could be a career blunder last season by not letting Davis grow in the job. Now, his future is tied to the success of that very QB.
When I think of Coach Hall and his responsibility to save this regime, I hear Mission Impossible theme music.
Godspeed Sir.
oh no Hawk is "broken"
Good one Hawk.
Made me chuckle.
Doing my part to save the planet..Gave Hawk some green.

I am generally a "glass half full" kind of guy. However, I am going into this football season with low expectations. That way, I can't be disappointed.
11-2. Book it.
This will be a crazy ___ season.
