This university has been short on trend-setting in the realm of athletics. Why don't we go out and do something to LEAD for a change.
Got to put a bug in maggards ear I know it was on the Alden report

Soccer is bigger in LA than baseball is. Just a fact. Better rec league organization, year round play, more inclusive.

Soccer is the future, plain and simple. We need to get on board. In a city that wants a winner so bad that it attends softball games by the thousands, a winning soccer program would take off here.
LA per game 25K for 18 home games.

LA Dodgers about 45K 81 games.

Then you've got the Angela at about 37K.

Clearly with over four times the home games and fifty percent increase or a third more per game even the lowly Angels blow out the Galaxy.

Then there's the question of how many Galaxy fans should even be in legal attendance.

No way is soccer a viable option for UL with or without fans old enough to have legal sex or shave more than once a month.

As for youth leagues. Cheaper to play, easier to play and so far not getting the best athletes by far.

Please don't cite Wikipedia. It kills your argument.

And if you're judging soccer popularity on the MLS, you're looking in the wrong place for affirmation. (Although MLS is the fastest growing sport in American professional sports not named UFC).

There are also many other things to address in this post. I'll be back when I have a min.

I can play this game too:

    Seattle Sounders FC: 43k -- 17 games -- 731,000 fans

    Seattle Seahawks: 70k -- 8 games -- 560,000 fans

I have legal sex and shave at least once a month. I'd buy tickets in a second. But the real point is that once that generation who can't shave or have sex gets older they will be more likely to buy soccer tickets, not football tickets.

UL is hanging on by a thread in all sports trying to keep up with not only the P5 mountain, but all the other mid majors that are in better position than us.

The last thing we need is another program that will bring 0 revenue to the table.

Name the overhead that will cost so much to have a soccer team..

    Travel. That's about it.

No reason this sport can't make money. Once again, big opportunity to LEAD. Get ahead of the curve. This is a budding time for soccer in the states.

Is our athletic department equipped with the appropriate staff to handle additional workload a new program would bring (compliance, etc)?

In all fairness travel is the most expensive part. And when you consider there are next to no local programs travel will definitely be expensive.
