I am going to preface this by saying I know nothing about soccer. But speaking to a former high school soccer referee he informed me that the scoring would actually go down if that went away. I argued the same point as you . His argument would be The defenses would just lay back and protect the goal and we would see less scoring In soccer than we do currently.
In soccer, the offensive player can be past the last defender before the ball gets to him. He just can't be past the 2nd to last defender BEFORE the ball is passed to him by his offensive teammate. The last defender would be the opposing Goalie.
As RaginDave stated....change that rule & scoring will drop considerably.
Cajun90...I like your rule modification but it will probably never happen.
BTW...it's "offside" not "offsides". Player is in an offside position.
As RaginDave stated....change that rule & scoring will drop considerably.
Is is possible to drop scoring in soccer considerably? Just kidding, but I do understand now. To a novice, getting rid of offside would raise scoring, but listening to the argument against it, it make perfect sense.
I'd buy men's soccer season tickets the day it would happen.
You, fifty others and teams relatives.
No offense to the old timers, but you're out of touch if you think that.
Soccer is bigger in LA than baseball is. Just a fact. Better rec league organization, year round play, more inclusive.
Soccer is the future, plain and simple. We need to get on board. In a city that wants a winner so bad that it attends softball games by the thousands, a winning soccer program would take off here.
