I played several years back. We had a very talented club team and from what I hear still do. With no true men's team around and with all the talent in the state of Louisiana, we would have a really good soccer team.
Men's soccer, Women's golf.
I've been pushing for this since I got to school.
Unfortunately paper counts.....
and you completely ignored the other cost. Coaches, buses, hotels, uniforms, etc. are hard cost that is more than a paper shuffle. I'm not against this but which teams are going to give up their extremely small piece of the pie to fund this??
Yes we do. Absolutely.
In the US football is on the decline. Soccer is on the rise. I don't know when this day will come, but in the next couple of decades soccer will replace football or baseball as a "Big 3" sport. It is inevitable. Among teenagers on social media soccer is more popular than baseball or football. There are also more youth soccer teams and an explosion in boys high school soccer teams.
We have a gigantic opportunity since most programs in the south don't have Men's Soccer. We have a chance to do what softball did -- beat everyone out the gate and establish a soccer program that can dominate the region.
I like football as much as the next guy, but with football we're bringing a knife to a gun fight. The other teams in the south have way too much ammo for us to ever compete with them. With men's soccer, we have a chance to get in ahead of everyone else.
I played for the club team and i dont think it is a good idea. We are behind about 20 years. Unless you hire someone that makes more than Hud forget it.
Personally, not that most of you care, I HATE soccer!!!
Sure we can find someone in the czech republic for cheap https://youtu.be/B5NuuJQT8ZM
It doesnt have to be one for one, you have to factor in current number of athletes and updated student enrollment figures...
But id rather see lacrosse than men's soccer
P.s. i believe women's crew allows the most scholarships at 20, i have heard of some crew programs having over 60 participants, this woul d easily allow the addition of lacrosse or men's soccer and maybe even wrestling. Plus could be a good workout program in offseason for some athletes in other sports (and get more financial opportunities for more softball walk-ons)
Having attended the NCAA beach volleyball championship this year I would hope we would field a team in the near future
Great matches and top flight competition
