According to Simmons, this hand gesture was first used in commerce -- by him -- on Nov. 14, 1974. He is claiming the hand gesture should be trademarked for "entertainment, namely live performances by a musical artist [and] personal appearances by a musical artist."

I allways been a KISS fan, but trademarking a hand gesture is absurd. I would like to send Gene my own version of a hand gesture that involves the middle finger.

LOL that's ridiculous. It's a sign language sign. I'd like to trademark the word "the". And "and".

Clicked expecting to see some bright UL student standing with Trebek - nope. Disappointed.

Impossible to enforce from our prospective. The UL administration hasn't put this in any publication I'm aware of.

He seems to want to license it with regards to live entertainment. It's been used in one form or the other for a long time, and in music the Beatles used it but reversed I understand.

His patent request would have no bearing on fans use of the symbol and I seriously doubt he will be awarded one anyway.
