Always nice to get a post player with that size straight out of high school. Looks like he could be a project but with the current depth there is time to bring him along slowly.

Looks like he has a nice post move. Quick feet. He might be able to get some minutes after a redshirt season.

As the proven originator of The Prophet nickname for Elijah McGuire...that nickname is already reserved.

On another note Marlin offered a guy in the 2020 class yesterday

    Definite redshirt
-Looks a little weak on his feet and might lack vertical explosion (that's based off of a few videos). There were times where a 6'9" player should be stuffing the basket in some of those low post opportunities. Good to get some height though. May be with a high top and some new shoes, we can list him at 6'11".
    We shall see

Definitely notices the lack of vertical explosion too. I agree, I kept waiting for him to jam it, but he never did.
Also surprised by the relatively low number of blocks per game. Someone his size should at least average 2/game at the high school level.

I don't want to take anything away from the signing and certainly welcome him to Cajun Country, but our coaches need to do a better job of educating the high schools on our name. Louisiana at Lafayette University is ridiculous. Why is he not recruited under the LOUISIANA name and the school and coaches made aware of that?

What I wonder is how we became aware of a kid in California. That location may be part of the reason the HS is unaware of thre name issue. It appears he transferred to that HS following his junior year. Research I did indicates he averaged 6 ppg as a junior. Looks like he blossomed as a senior. Not being on the radar of the big schools due to not showing much as a junior is probably one way we got in on him. I agree he looks like a redshirt candidate. I did see one dunk in highlights but being able to score around the basket without dunking is rare for some players these days so I don't see the lack of dunks as a total negative. Someone tell me again how we found a kid 2000 miles away. Wonder if this kid made it down here for summer school.
