Thread: Robichaux explains pitching decisions in UL's final game

  1. UL Baseball Robichaux explains pitching decisions in UL's final game

The Cajuns exited the Sun Belt Tournament early, didn't receive NCAA Tournament bid

As explained it all makes sense.

I just can't shake the shadow (feeling) of double elimination logic being employed in a single elimination world.

I attended the Coach Robe show last night at Petes. He said the conference had a straw vote at the tournament of teams preference of double or single elimination. UL was only team to vote for double. He was not making excuses just recounting what happened.
IMO, I guess all the others realized what an advantage our pitching depth gave us in a double elimination format.

Nice to know you can change rules on the fly with a straw vote.

There should have been a straw vote to keep the # 9 & 10 teams out of the double elimination tournament.

Did Robe mention that Gunner himself said he was through when he came out after 7 innings with 84 pitches thrown? A stellar preformance of 12 pitches per inning...........??????????

Pretty sure he addressed that, and said that he talked to Gunner concerning going back out and both decided it was time to come out.

What does pitch count have to do with a sore back tightening? Gunner was held out completely just a couple weeks before and when he wasn't had some pretty rough outings....if coach says he was done...he was done...id trust either of them to make that call. It's over regardless...can't undo it. Gunner and marks still sent us to the 9th with a 4 run lead.

Our pitching depth failed us totally in single elimination. Orgeron and Harris the closest things to likely game winners

We were beat by 1 bad pitch hit with 1 good swing. Odds are we do not get beat twice in the tournament by a grand slam.
That's why the CWS final game went to best 2 of 3 so that 1 bad night does not cost you the championship.

One bad pitch didn't load the bases, but you have a valid point, nonetheless.

We got beat by loading the bases with our all American closer who was having an awful year. Our only pitcher who I have confidence in to keep the runtotal under four was down. There's little to suggest we start scoring many runs. Schmidt is usually good for three innings, but not much more. He failed in his relief attempt. All we had left was Harris IMO. Everyone else had major flaws in recent outings

By typical closer standards it was a good year. By Dylan standards it was a sub-par year.
