I was responding to your statement concerning LSU hosting ...and that the committee would create too much work for themselves by having to ship, LSU, Louisiana, and McNeese State out of the region (thus a reason why LSU will host). I simply stated that this thinking does not impact the committee's selection of the national seeds. The national seeds are awarded on merit only.

Meanwhile, I mentioned that there are paths to where the Cajuns could catch LSU in the RPI. If they do, this would lessen the prospects that LSU would host. Either the Cajuns or some other team could get the nod over LSU. In no way does that statement say that national seed selection is solely about the RPI.

I overstated my case by using the words "trouble/work" to describe what the committee would have to do if neither LSU nor Louisiana hosted. But the 400 mile rule is one of the factors they take into consideration when they are deliberating between teams who are so closely matched in merits and demerits. Granted, merits usually make a clear case, but not always. I do believe that merit will be very clear as to who the 16 seeds will be this season.

Correct ... I am not saying that the Cajuns would host instead of LSU solely based on RPI. But I am saying that it does lessen LSU's chances. Even if LSU defeats Missouri, I am not sold that they are hosting. If they lose, I think there is an excellent chance they do not host. If they finish outside of the RPI Top 16 ... I think there is a very good chance they do not host (RPI is the strongest leg in LSU's stool ... if that fails ...).

No, this is not correct. The geographical rule for the placement of teams does not play a role in the national seeds that are selected (and thus the host sites that are awarded). The 16 national seeds are selected on merit only. This (geographical rule) only comes into play when slotting teams in regionals ... after the national seeds and the host selections are decided.
