still cant get over the fact that he went to check in at the scorers table without a jersey on.

but the kid could absolutely jump out of the gym.

I have just never seen a redshirt used in that way. They were basically telling him, "We needed you as a Freshman but you probably won't see the court too much as a Sophomore so why don't you just sit this one out". Some kids could probably see the benefit in that, others could see it as a slap in the face. One thing is for sure, he saw the 3 transfers every day in practice so he knew what was coming in that regard. There could be other scenarios that led to this too that we know nothing about.

I don't think so. Evans and Davis redshirted their first year here and both played last year. By the end of the season, Davis was a key contributor off the bench while Evans showed flashes of his potential despite being injured most of the year. The Brown situation is different as he was going to be asked to redshirt after playing his first year. That was due to the no. of transfers who sat out last season and the fact there are four seniors on next year's team. There is nothing unusual at this time about the transfer situation here. As ZoomZoon said, movement is prevalent throughout all of college basketball these days.

Wouldn't have had to be official. He could have been told that his playing time, which was 10 minutes per game this year (8th on the team despite starting early in the year) and decreased as the season went on, would be even less next year. He was active on the boards when in an open court situation, but tended to get blocked out too easily when in a half court game and averaged 1.5RPG. He didn't shoot the ball well from outside even though his FG% was 0.542 as most were layups or put-backs. His 3point% was 23.1% and his FT% was 44.4%.

I agree with this. Many times the parents are the ones who get frustrated quickly when a player does not see as much action as they believe is warranted. That is when they start thinking a guy may play more somewhere else. That is the main reason they leave.

I liked Roydell as a player and was hoping he would improve during the year. I wish him well as I expect he is transferring mainly for PT ... he was getting less as the season unfolded and next year he knew it would be an issue.

I don't remember him being at the basketball banquet; this may explain it.

    Good luck Roydell.

With Brown transferring, we are now looking to bring in a post player.

If it is a post player it would make sense for him to be a transfer who may sit. We didn't lose a post player and we're gaining Gant. That being said I wouldn't be shocked if something comes up and Stalcup doesn't return.

Was curious since the fall semester started as to where Roydell ended up. I tried to research but didn't find anything. Anyone know if he joined another program?

Thanks, guess that's an indicator that he truly wanted to play this year and not redshirt.
