Riddell Brown will be transferring out. Can't say that I'm too surprised, we needed an extra scholarship spot. He was more than likely asked to redshirt this upcoming year so he decided to transfer
We have 3 transfers coming in. Plaisance,Brown, may Wright that's 3 there
Freshman plans to transfer
We did need someone to leave in order to bring someone else in. That is even with Plaisance leaving. One of the transfers paid their own way in the fall semester. Brown would have likely not played here next year as plan was to redshirt him due to the transfers coming in and four seniors on next year's squad. Note, I have no idea if he was asked to leave or this was totally his preference. Personally, I would not be surprised if his scholarship goes to another transfer. 12 scholarship players is plenty to go to battle with next season. Note if it is a transfer that is brought in, we may not hear about it for awhile. We did not hear about one of the transfers last year until August. That being said, the spring signing period began today. It lasts for a month.
Here is a list of the 12 scholarship players slated for next season. First the 8 guys who played this past year; Miller, Bartley, Evans, Davis, Hardy, Stove, Washington, Stalcup. Now the three transfers; Gant, Stroman, and Marquetti. Finally, our fall period signee-Russell. 8+3+1 =12. You are allowed 13 on scholarship. That proves Brown leaving makes room for one potential spring signee to be brought in.
I don't why he is leaving. If I had to guess it would be two reasons. One he may not have wanted to redshirt as was the plan of the staff. Tied to that was probably the desire to play more minutes than he would have here once his redshirt was over. That is the reason just about everyone leaves where they are. I have no idea where he will end up but I would not be surprised if it is UNO. His game fits their style somewhat and he is from New Orleans. As Coach said in his statement, I am sure we all wish him well going forward.
I am not sure I understand your question. Transfers are generally on scholarship. We were lucky one of the transfers this year wanted to come here badly enough he paid his own way for one semester. That is a very unusual situation. We have 12 scholarship players now as outlined in another post. The 13th can go to a HS guy, a JUCO guy, or a transfer.
