Agreed.. This game was a total kick in the nuts!!!!OUCH. How we respond will say a lot about our testicular fortitude ..

Robe will have the team put this behind them. I have no doubt about it. I don't know what quality arms they have let but we hit their CES MVP pretty well and we have good arms left. I like our chances

Look, I wanted to see Marks pitch the 9th inning today. Heck, I wanted Marks to relieve Lee in the 5th and take it as far as he could ... finish the game if he could ... and notch the second win of the series. Then have Moore, Huval, Guillory, etc. for tomorrow. But I certainly understand the decision and in no way should anyone be surprised. This is how bullpens are typically used. I also admit that I am a bit of a contrarian in that regard (my take on how bullpens are optimally used ... especially in college ... is a little different than the norm). Not dissimilar to how I think teams should assemble their schedules. :-)

Taking it a step further ... last night I was hoping Marks would close and finish the 9th ... leaving Moore for Saturday ... allowing Marks to come back Sunday. My philosophy is that your relievers are fresher with that kind of strategy ... they are not warming in the pen each day ... and get a day of rest in between. But we certainly understand why Robe brought Moore on in the 9th last night ... and it worked. I do believe that pitches thrown the day before can certainly have an effect on command, control, and the general filthiness of the "stuff". Hence my philosophy on rest. Of course, all pitchers are different and the practice of such a philosophy should/can be adjusted (somewhat) accordingly.

That makes sense. Looked like game was pretty much in the bag. Trust your guy to bring it home. Thanks for the insight. Baseball strategy is not my strong suit.

My $.02 on yesterday's pitching decision. As GoneGolfin said it was a calculated risk Robe made to bring DMo in. Robe was going for the sweep hoping to have both available for an inning tomorrow. Had Marks pitched the 9th he likely wouldn't had been available.
I would of brought Marks out in the 9th to start the inning and with any sign of trouble bring in the closer. I've watched baseball for many years and "closers" don't pitch as well with big leads or in non closing situations. Mark's has been lights out and looked really good in the 8th with 2 K's. The main reason I bring back Marks is because he has had better control this season, DMo has given up a lot of walks. The only way CCU was going to score 3-4 runs and win that game was by the way of free passes!

Every year, our teams have different knacks. This years team has a knack for responding well to tough moments. Hopefully that's the case again today.

Most troubling thing though: of our 13 losses, 4-5 (off the top of my head) have come with multiple run leads in late innings.

I saw some comments above about the decision being made to save both forthe Sunday game. I think the decision was made with the thinking that D-MO would be best to get three outs in the ninth. Just my 2 cents. I don't think coach was looking ahead to the sweep. I think he was using the same strategy from Friday night which worked.

Regardless, let's get the big series win today! Geaux Cajuns!

    Grind!

But I do like Brian's idea where you have one close Friday, another close Saturday and the first closer back on Sunday with a day of rest.

This team will bounce back today. I can't say that they will definitely win because this is a good opponent on the road, but we will show fight
