I know that as I've scoured the roster; however, is it a fact that every "best" player plays at the club level? I get that the majority probably do, but how can one be certain if the teams are NOT evaluated?

My son is a top 6A lefter pitcher here in Plano.....Club baseball ranks well above HS. True in baseball, softball, soccer and volleyball. Club coach does 98%+ of the networking/recruiting for their players. College coaches will call a players club coach almost exclusively before their HS coach. With exception of football.....HS coaches are little more than your typical govt employees here. Player skills development happens at the Club level.

If you want to see your kid excel.....you need to invest & buy it. Sucks, that is just the way it is.

FWIW....Can add that club baseball is NOT as expensive as club volleyball or soccer.

I listened to much of this as well. (Great job btw Ian).

I also found the recruiting comments odd. I get the club angle but how can you not at least send assistants to watch HS Vball? That surprised me a lot.
It's sad that it has come to that in pretty much all sports but football, but club events give the recruiter an opportunity to see many more than the players on just two teams for an event and in most instances most of those playing at least aspire to play at the next level. There is generally a higher congregation of qualifying players to view at club events.

Basketball has some of that as well due to AAU. If a kid is really good and cannot afford AAU travel, someone almost always picks up the tab. However HS basketball still allows kids to get noticed by college coaches.

Sounds like there is a huge opportunity for any College coach to gain high school coaches as their #1 salesmen.

Just sit in the stands and do paperwork.

It's not only the UL's of the world that have budget issues with the minor sports. As such the recruiting budgets are usually limited. It simple makes more sense to attend a club "college showcase" tournament rather than trying to make it around to a bunch of high schools.

In soccer I can't remember a single player who was good enough to play college ball but did not play club. As someone noted many of these players are good because of club ball. They play year around instead of just a few months in high school. You will also find it true that many high school coaches in soccer also have their feet in the club pool as well.

    Default Robe on the Au-Zone

"You fire people when they are incompetent. I don't have incompetent coaches. In fact, I have good coaches. The landscape of college baseball is changing.

"What we did is we rerouted some guys to put them positions that they're good at. Nobody was demoted; everything is a promotion . . . because it lines them up to where their skill set is."

--Coach Tony Robichaux, on the adjustments to his coaching staff.

Love Coach Robe, but he rambled and repeated himself quite a bit in this interview.

Sounds like y'all figured out a way to avoid speed traps on your way home last night by piggy backing on a police escourt...😁😁😁😁
