I know we were fighting an uphill battle with the OL... but there were times you couldn't have called worse plays. And "Eli up the gut" was a big part of it.

So... I'll answer your question this way... I think 7-5 was achievable with no better output from our defense. Our offense alone lost 2-3 games (and kept us uncompetitive in others) that a better coaching job last year would have turned into victories. I would have liked Hud to keep his face out of the defense with his "force turnovers and strip the ball" mentality... that probably easily lost one game by itself... but let's just focus on offense. The season was set up to be a limp package. Our coaching staff botched it. It was going to be a struggle... and they just cashed in our chips and took the first taxi home. That's my opinion of the coaching... and Haack being the QB (with their support) was only part of that overall failure.
Which plays in particular would you have designed around Haacks passing? Other than involving Eli in the passing game more I'm just not seeing much that could have been done with the personnel we had.

I'm not J1M but a little T.E. pass participation would have slowed the linebacker rush and decreased double-teaming of wide receivers.

We have not had any significant pass plays to the tight end since Hud's first year.

Crapp... I think people are tired of the long posts and thread topic diversions. I cannot in a single page on this forum explain this adequately. I'd love to discuss this, but it will have to be offline.

Start with some quick slants to Fuse and Haynes. Progress from there.

The passing game that did not support Haack was vast (plays that exist in our play book). But when a bull rams his head into a steel wall... if there's too much juice pumping out of his sack... he doesn't jump over the wall... he just figures he isn't hitting the wall hard enough... and the slamming continues. If you get a rush out of head slamming... it's a hard thing to give up. And God forbid you ever break through the wall once or twice. Say goodbye to jumping over walls.

You can start by separating receivers. We have 3 receivers within 10 yards of each other.

And the staff never reacted like it was a mistake.

I'm afraid you are correct and if Ladarius Green hadn't already had national notoriety, we might not have seen the T.E. used in 2011

If I remember correctly, they didn't use LG a whole lot in the beginning either. He was targeted a lot more in the 2nd half of the season once Blaine was solidified as the starter. I vaguely remember LG starting the year banged up too, could be wrong.

Correct. He got hurt along the way and got back in action after a few games out. You don't have to have a Ladarius Green to use a TE in passing plays, however. That's going to be the excuse of someone on here. We also ran some atrocious routes. Haack would have "stat'd" a lot better had WRs caught the passes that were thrown straight into their mitts. Some were game busters. That set aside... the pass coaching sucked the root this year. I want them to own up to it so it gets corrected.
