That stinks. We need to hope for a deep run into the tournament, fortuitous opponents, and a very low number of "stolen bids." Without a tournament championship, our odds of making a regional are precarious at best.
There's just something inherently wrong with a system that penalizes winning. We swept a conference road series and dropped 4 spots. And the whole St. Peter's thing has been discussed ad nauseum. We would have been monumentally better off NOT playing!
So we'd probably be nearly a lock at large team had we just taken 2 weekends off and went to the beach. Instead, we go 6-0 and ruin the season?? Someone who governs these rules needs to say that out loud a few times, and listen to themselves. Completely ridiculous.
I agree in general ... except the Cajuns sweeping ULM this weekend was basically a wash in terms of the RPI (less than a .0008 drop ... which is very small). Most of the very small drop in RPI was due to the Cajuns' opponents. And if you are just looking at the rankings, you are not seeing that the teams are very tightly packed. In a normal weekend, the Cajuns would have likely held their spot.
This series did not hurt the Cajuns ... it helped them as they added three wins to their conference record and moved up a spot to fourth. Everything will come out in the wash. They have the opportunity to move up a number of spots very quickly this week.

As I've said before, sometimes the RPI is your friend, and sometimes it is not. Last year it helped us. This year it hurt us.
