Oh ... and without Saint Peter's on the schedule ... presently a #34 RPI ranking. :-)

Brian what would the RPI have been if St. Peters had won 10 games or 14 games, which was the the average number of wins the previous 5 years. What about a 22-34 Miami of Ohio. My point is no one and I mean no one could have predicted that St Peters would not win a game this year at the start of last season, not this season, last season.

I did a quick search of their history. I don't have the exact numbers in front of me but it was something like 12 or fewer wins in 13 seasons since 1995. No one could predict an 0'fer in baseball but they do have a very poor history.

I understand the poor history, but the last 5 years they averaged 14.5 wins. I am curious what our RPI would be with those wins or even 10 wins. Not saying we should not have scheduled them.

It is a good and fair question. Since Saint Peter's played considerably fewer games this season than in past seasons, I think it is appropriate to use winning percentage. Let's look at a repeat of last year's performance (10-42 ... or .19231). A .19231 winning percentage would be between 7 wins (.18421) and 8 wins (.21053) ... considerably closer to 7 wins.

Saint Peter's with a record of 7-31 does not yield much of an RPI improvement ... and increase of .00536. But because the teams are tightly packed in this region of the RPI rankings, the Cajuns' RPI ranking jumps to #43.

Saint Peter's with a record of 8-30 yields an increase of .00612, also good for a Cajuns' RPI ranking of #43.

To put this in perspective, the increase of .0612 is tighter than the spread between #30 and #35 in the RPI rankings. The .00536 spread above is tighter than between #31 and #35.

Not having Saint Peter's on the schedule yields an increase of .011990, good for a ranking of #34.

Beggars can't be choosers, so as long as we get a bid I really don't care where we go. But I'm so tired of going to Baton Rouge for regionals. Being shipped off to BR is getting really old. Anywhere but BR please.

Of course, whether D1Baseball really thinks we are one of the 33 at-large teams depends on where they have us in the pecking order (bubble). Are the Cajuns one of the last four teams in? If so and we see a repeat of 2016 (four stolen bids), then the Cajuns would actually not be in the field of 64. 2015 had three stolen bids and 2014 two.

Baseball America has us as a "last 4 in" at large in Baton Rouge.
