I remember going to a school meeting when one of mine was about to go into high school. It was a chance to hear what to expect and ask questions. When it came to athletics one father in particular was very vocal and finally just came out said "what are you going to do to make sure my kid plays at the next level". The athletic directors reply was priceless. In short he told the dad that unless the kid keeps his grades up there wasn't much he could do because he would never see those coaches from the next level to talk about his son because the first stop was the counselors office to check grades.

wow, is it true or fiction?

wouldn't cobra kai dojo in karate kid in essence constitute a travel team? seems at their school non-school karate was more popular than in school varsity sports.

the next piece of the travel ball puzzle seems to be what should be the effects if coaches that start out in travel ball organizations also "work their way up" and become college coaches, is that an unfair influence in recruiting circles?

So where should we get college coaches from? Maybe the local Dairy Queen? Life isn't fair and working your way up is the way it is done in this country....even in coaching.

I meant some may still have ties in to the travel system they came from. I think probably not in football or big baseball programs, but in some colleges the softball coaches still work with travel teams during their offseason. so possibility could theoretically exist to recruit to your college your own current travel ball player... didn't say ban it, just asking if it is possible and thus a concern
