My son's friend next door 12 years ago when he was about 12, seriously planned to be a professional wiffle ball player when he grew up. I should have gotten his autograph when I had the chance.

I know the feeling. Had dealings with a gentleman who was down on his luck a few years back (was oilfiled and got hurt). He told me everything was going to be ok since his son was going to be drafted by the NBA. After starting with the opening question what was his name, then of what college he played for, and the downward progression of questions, kid played for Acadian Middle. But his AAU team played on the Pelicans' practice court, so according to daddy, that made him a future NBA player.

So, as others have pointed out, it is not just baseball with stupid parents.

I remember going to a school meeting when one of mine was about to go into high school. It was a chance to hear what to expect and ask questions. When it came to athletics one father in particular was very vocal and finally just came out said "what are you going to do to make sure my kid plays at the next level". The athletic directors reply was priceless. In short he told the dad that unless the kid keeps his grades up there wasn't much he could do because he would never see those coaches from the next level to talk about his son because the first stop was the counselors office to check grades.

wow, is it true or fiction?

wouldn't cobra kai dojo in karate kid in essence constitute a travel team? seems at their school non-school karate was more popular than in school varsity sports.

the next piece of the travel ball puzzle seems to be what should be the effects if coaches that start out in travel ball organizations also "work their way up" and become college coaches, is that an unfair influence in recruiting circles?
