Marlin and others near the program have maintained that one of the reasons that basketball has had poor scheduling and poor results is that we lack funds relative to our peers, especially those with either no football or with FCS football, and that subsidizing women's basketball puts our men at a competitive disadvantage. This report, to some degree, exposes that as an excuse rather than a reason.

ULAR has the closest budget to us. The biggest name they brought in was Tulsa and that is no big whoop. I'm not sure what having the highest budget has to do with anything. If you cant afford to buy games, thats the bottom line. Or am I missing your point?

I actually think we could afford to buy games. However type of school you would buy would be someone from the SWAC or a SLC team. You may draw 500 more for that game than you would for a game against Spring Hill. You would pay 70 thousand for a D1 school like that vs 15 thousand for a non D1. That does not make financial sense. Last time I remember buying a home game was when Centenary came when they were still D1. That was years ago and they came cheap. We have not regularly bought home games since the Marty Fletcher days. Better known programs don't travel in today's world and it seems no matter how many times evidence to this effect is presented, some still refuse to believe it. We could improve our schedule by playing more road money games ourselves. I would be OK with that to some degree. Staff wants to balance that with travel impact on academics however. They also like to give the squad several days off at Christmas time as well. Some of you may not agree with that policy but it is not changing any time soon. What we need to work on is to get more schools to agree to home and home contests. Although AD's usually don't get involved in non football recruiting, there is a strong reason to do so here. If I ever meet Dr. Maggard, I will make this suggestion.

I'm not sure I understand your point. So UL had the money to begin the Tigue Moore renovation construction on time? The president and many others weren't mislead by our former AD? The AD was not terminated? Cajun baseball season ticket holders were able to watch baseball at home in February? Construction will be completed before the season ends? What exactly are you saying?

You gain very little from a draw standpoint by paying someone like SFA to come to the Dome. RPI wise, you never know what you will get from any team you schedule. For example, SFA Lumberjacks were down this year after three great years. UNO was the SLC regular season and tournament champion (congratulations to a Privateer program that has overcome much) and we defeated them. 2nd best team in that league is Texas A&M Corpus Christi and they have more talent than the Sam Houston team we beat in the CIT last year. I would not be surprised to see us play the Islanders this year. Original point still stands in that we need to get more schools to play us home and home. If anyone else speaks to Dr. Maggard about basketball, please bring this topic up.

BB seems to be in a rut. Baseball is currently outdrawing them. These lower/ mid major tournaments don't create much excitement!

Because their high and mighty MBB program refuses to come to the CajunDome. That's the beginning and end of it.

I agree with Mike on the home and home deal, and I have been hammering on that even to the point of suggesting same year home and homes with programs like Tech and NMSU. Tulsa, SIU and Missouri State would be other good home and homes for us, as they are usually decent and not too far away.

Also, except for NMSU they are from conferences that are generally better than the Sun Belt.
