The people who rant on here are way too close to the situation to have an unbiased opinion. They take it personal, I can go give this basketball program all I got night in and night out...doesn't make me a great D1 basketball player. HUD's teams haven't quit on him, they play their Azz off..yet he doesn't get a pass... he is held to the fire by expectations he created but Marlin gets do over and do over and pass after pass. Apathy is the worst thing for a program and I'm pretty in tune with a lot of fans...people don't give 2 shts one way or the other right now, I wish it was different but I'm just giving my opinion of where I see things. I don't blame the people who are at every rebounders meeting and function for defending the program but don't tell me they have a clear view of it, they don't...they are extremely biased.
Biased or informed? I get your point. And btw, I am not one of those people. I am least involved with basketball (for no other reason other then that it's my least favorite sport), but speak to Mike and Mel and others, and I try to keep an open mind about it.

Comparing coaches to each other is something we do way too much around here. Each sport has its own set of challenges. Hud has brought a lot of criticism upon himself and lost favor with fans via his own actions. I don't recall Marlin ever publicly insulting his fan base.

But for the casual fan, brass tax is wins and losses. And I'm fine with that. Blame lays at the feet of the head man; comes with the territory. And here's the deal, if we're going to make a change, they had better nail the hire. Marlin has been average in terms of wins and losses, but he's done everything else right.

MAT I'm in line with you on this issue.

I think we often give coaches too much credit and too much blame. Marlin sets a good tone for our STUDENT athletes. He could do more in regards to fundraising but he is hamstringed unlike other major coaches at UL.

It is not a good situation and I'm not saying he is the answer but I also don't think he is a "problem". I question how much success any coach would have under some of the limitations placed on the program at this stage.

With all that said we are talking large picture. Bring things back down to this season and you have to give them credit up to this point. Job well done.

It will be interested to see what a new AD does but given the huge mountain of college basketball in the deep south and some of our own limitations it would not surprise me to see that this isn't a priority. Baseball and softball are rolling and Football drives the bus so don't be surprised if basketball is the red headed step child for a while longer.

The man has been and still being given time...can he not have a UTA,LATECH ,UALR,Georgia state,USM type season at some point? Is that really too much to expect in 8 years? All similar schools in close proximity.

I agree. And I've said many times here, if he can't win the league and take a salty team to the NCAAs next year with the influx of talent we'll have, the leadership we'll have and the veteran experience we'll have... Then he can't win big here.

----Guess I can complain at this time about something that I think is STUPID----after the game and the win the team goes over to the student body area and the student body is walking out the place---the team then sings the fight song W/O the band (acappella) and then the band plays the fight song as the team walks away---So we get a student leader to ask the students at the game to stay a couple of minutes longer and sing the fight song with the team and band----a mission for the Brocksman possibly!!!

I don't think many people fully understand that MBB at UL and the SBC have the potential to be the biggest moneymaker of any sport by virtue of the NCAA dance money.

To do that though we need multiple participants and getting at least two games into the tournament. Instead the coaches in the SBC protect their collective resumes.

Coach Marlin could do more to raise money for the team. Would it cut into his coaching and recruiting duties? Can't answer that, but I'm thinking probably not as much as some think. I'd love to see what Marlin's non coaching time looks like.

Thanks to the coaches and players for a great win last night. Fighting the zebras and Mavericks isn't easy.

Myself and a few other former band members had a text chain going after the 2nd band kid barely hit the backboard. We were embarrassed and ashamed as former basketball band members.

Agree. It's a complex issue all around.

At this stage I'll be happy to overachieve this year and have big expectations for next. The kids deserve nothing less.

Personally I think Marlin could do more for the program outside of his coaching duties but I'm still not convinced that would make a noticeable difference to the program as a whole .

I know this....Marlin has definitely convinced a bunch of players this year that they are relevant and they do have a chance to do something special. I'm good with that. The rest can wait until after the season.
