Couple things, he ran down the positions roughly but there are still inter squads to be played. Not necessarily the depth chart exactly but you get the drift

C: Monica, then Ray and Aguilar
1B: Pinero, some Tyler Stover and Brenn has worked there also
    2B: Brenn or Kasuls
    3B: Robbins, Pinero, Poncho
    SS: Antchak or Kasuls
LF: Fontenot, Izzy Edwards, Spears may end up redshirting just depends on need
CF: Robbins, Jam, Lafleur, Stoelke (moved from P, was two way guy coming in and summer ball, very good athlete)
    RF: Sensley, Stover

Didnt mention DH but you can assume that's likely Lott often. Also, Poncho is likely the first PH bat off the bench for us

A lot will just depend on matchups. They will need to keep Brenn in the lineup one way or the other so having him work at 2B at times but perhaps at 1B some will keep the lineup more flexible. He didn't have time to specifically address Jam's playing time but was the 2nd guy mentioned in CF and that's behind Robbins who will often play 3B, so I imagine he will get chances

Any guys on the 35 man roster can practice, regardless of redshirt.

Lott's arm is coming along but they won't rush it. He's in throwing protocol. He is a very advanced bat for his age, so we will see him often.

What are we doing about 1st base?

With regards to our lack of a true center fielder, and our lack of overall team speed, will Jam Williams be given every opportunity to play?
Babs said that isn't something they've considered. Fontenot is now an OF. Not to dump on the kid but his brief stint at 2B a couple years ago wasn't exactly encouraging

You're right, but the kid was an all American 2nd baseman twice in high school. Obviously the college game is much faster, but I was just curious what had been considered.

IMO, unless Jam is completely inept at the plate, I would have him in CF and in the lineup. We lack team speed. Big time.

Anyway, thanks for the info boys.

Jam cant be out there. You can almost chalk it up as an out in the lineup. We have too many bats and too many versatile guys that can fill in that position. You can give up a little something defensively for a quality bat, you arent so willing to do it the other way around.

I think they're more or less set using 2/3 of Antchak, Kasuls and Brenn. He was pretty straightforward about Kennon. They aren't expecting to use him outside of LF and I think he has that basically locked down.

On Jam, you know as well as anyone what he needs to improve. If he has made the strides on both offense and defense, I think he will be in the mix for sure. Robe has mentioned his prescription glasses helping him a bunch on defense and I'm sure they will help hitting. I think he can take a lot of pressure off the lineup if he's come along. Not being forced to play Joe in CF would likely allow us to play our best possible infield (defensively)

I'll say this about Jam. He had some encouraging at bats early in the year last season. If he's a liability still, you're right, he can't be out there. But IMO, for our best lineup potential and our best defensive 9, Jam needs to be in center and provide speed in the lineup. He's a unique player that adds a lot of what we need, if he has improved to the point of contributing with the bat.

Talking ideal situation here. Having said that, I know Stoelke can play and the coaches seem to be happy with him.

There was word that Jam has made a jump. We will see if it carries into the season. I think they really want Joe in CF. Apparently Poncho has been a natural at 3rd base too. I imagine a lot of shuffling based on match ups.

---Speaking of match ups---do we have any switch hitters and who are our lefties at the plate??? Who dares to win the prize for predicting the starting position and batting order vs a lefty or righty on opening day??? who are our 3 best bunters and who are our fastest 3 guys???

Robbins in CF would be ideal. Experience, leadership and also allowing for another bat to play in the infield. Here's my lineup, maybe not opening day, but by mid-conference:

    8 Robbins
    4 Conrad
    7 Fontenot
    DH Lott
    2 Monica
    9 Sensley
    3 Pinero
    6 Antchak
    5 Poncho

    Weekend Rotation:
    Friday Leger
    Saturday Lee
    Sunday Guillory

1st out the Pen: Marks (long relief), C. Lee (hold em), Harris and Huval (situational)
    D-Mo to shut the door

Hopefully Kennon builds on last season. He was getting really hot late on and can lock that position down.

It's tough to balance starts with this team, but in a good way for sure. If Joe plays CF, I don't know that Poncho would necessarily be up next. I think first move would be to get Pinero on that corner, then it's whether Brenn is ready for 1B or put Stover there. Stover started more at 1B when at Kansas State than he did in the OF so I don't think that's too much of a stretch (though was more DH than either.) I think he can be really valuable and is a guy that many might forget about. He batted near .300 in about a half season's worth of games at K-State.

I think the guys that are must starts are Brenn, Sensley, Robbins and probably Monica though you'd like to relieve him more than we did with Thurm. You could maybe say Pinero, Fontenot are in that next group and of course Antchak or Kasuls and the rest are plug and play based on matchup. And a guy like Lott will probably be there more often than not depending on what kind of start he gets off to

Colten Schmidt will be in the starters mix as well.

Norman and Burk will likely get opportunities in midweek as well behind someone like Harris or Guillory or Schmidt (depending on who the 3rd wkd guy is)
