I pretty sure the 76ers have his rights and would have to trade him. They may not want to trade him. All honesty I do not know how the D League works.

If I remember right, Sixers have his rights via a 2 year contract. So you're right, compensation would be involved. Sixers have also been winning, so maybe they'll be ready to start dealing soon?

You are correct a two year deal, partially guaranteed.

"Of the five players the 76ers waived they will designate Barber, Long, Webb, and Christmas as affiliate cuts, according to a league source. This provides the 76ers with the exclusive D-League rights for these four players if any of them sign a contract to play in the D-League.

The NBA allows teams to retain the D-League rights for up to four players cut during training camp. This only grants the team the right to have the player on their D-League roster if the player signs a contract with the D-League, however, meaning any NBA team is free to call up any of these four players to NBA contracts."

It's a little confusing because there are a few ways guys can be assigned per the D-League info.

    The main ways:
*NBA teams can assign their contracted players and call them up at any time
*Drafted players can be signed to D-League contracts as a "Draft Rights Player"
*Designate up to 4 "affiliate players" that go to your affiliate but can be signed by any NBA team

I'm pretty sure Shawn got a guaranteed $65k but is an affiliate player designation.

This is the list of NBA contracted players assigned and only Richaun Holmes is listed for the 76ers.
