My first Dan McD story involves a fax when I was doing the QB club MC gig---I was meeting with him at the SID office and he was sending a fax---I didn't believe what it could do so he sent it and they returned a message---SHOCKED --still kinda didn't think it could do this!!! lol
I'm not referring to broadcasts but to published articles. Articles published in one paper are often edited when those same articles are published in another newspaper, and I have no doubt that broadcasters are given "guidance" on what they may or may not say. Whether they abide by the guidance they are given is a different story.
I honestly can't recall Dan ever calling us Louisiana in a broadcast on in print. I'm sure he has, but all I ever remember is Louisiana Lafayette. Seems either the Sun Belt or a network or a newspaper prohibited using Louisiana to refer to us and, of course, he had to abide by their guidelines.
Believe me, if Dan could've used Louisiana in those broadcasts or in print, he would have. Nobody, and I mean nobody, ever worked harder on behalf of this university when he was here. Take it from the guy who was sports editor for two years at the Vermilion. He was forever patient with a know-it-all, 19-year-old, would-be journalist who generally caused more headaches than he was worth.
Congratulations Dan! If you're reading this, I didn't know how good I had it back then!
Wow, so easy to get a red dot these days...
