Thread: Baseball polls

Being clutch is far more important than the numbers, with our pitching staff getting hits when we need it is the most important thing...not putting up gaudy numbers.

I and others (Robe) are less concerned with BA than OB% and Slugging %. Sensley destroyed baseballs in Alaska with maple bats. Hoping the swing holes are now smaller and aluminum will respond, also. Not going too far out on the limb saying Handsome Monica (1.102 OPS last year) will destroy baseballs.

Sensley hit .308 in 38 games overall, led the Alaska league in home runs (6) and slugging percentage (.531), and tied for first in extra base hits (16). He was second in the league in RBIs (27) and (OPS) on-base-slugging percentage (.915). He also stole seven bases.

Last year we had one player with OPS % over .900, Kyle Clement. OB% + SLG % = OPS. If those two can hit over .900 OPS in the middle of the order, spring and summer could be very sweet.

Clutch hitting usually goes with gaudy numbers more so that mediocre numbers. Kid from SLU had gaudy numbers and was clutch, so was the Little Rock kid.

Frankly how clutch can you be when you don't know in the runs. We did not do that in a lot of games last two seasons.

You can crush bad pitching midweek and Sunday's to jack up your numbers...I don't care if the team hits .280...can you score on Friday night in a 1-1 game in the 8th with a man standing on 2nd. Gaudy numbers don't mean clutch...a single player who has gaudy numbers is more than likely clutch. Can you get the bunt down when you absolutely have to. The team needs to be clutch if we want to get where we wanna go.

Actually everything I've heard from a few inside sources, is that this team looked extremely impressive offensively in the fall. Whether that carries over to the regular season remains to be seen. But from all accounts, we are expected to be better, and I mean A LOT better, on offense this year. Look out for Todd Lott, boys and girls.

Yes. People need to prepare themselves for Todd Lott. He is a big league hitter and all indications from Fall camp are that he is the real deal.
