Thread: Louisiana vs Pepperdine

To me the dynamics of basketball as a whole are changing. You don't see every team build around a big centerpiece. There were days when every team from biddy ball to NBA built teams around a Center. Now-a-days you see long, athletic "tweeners" filling out the rosters....and those rosters are better and more versatile to me. The slow, still 7-footers are a thing of the past. It's great to find one that can actually move, but the others just make your team more one dimensional, lacking transition, speed, etc.

And the really good athletic big men will very rarely find their way here. If Shawn wasn't from Morgan city he would haven't been here.

Miller and Washington can't play the whole game. Someone has to sub for them. That is Plaisance occasionally. I have noticed that they are playing Jekarius Davis more at the 4 spot. I bet that continues as he is strong enough to occasionally play inside.

According to CajunMike, TooLame who the NOLA media claims should be the 2nd best in the state stands 3/10.
Jeff Duncan is a TP sports writer. He wrote an article after Dunleavy was hired to be the Green Wave coach. In that article, he stated the hire should make the Green Wave the state's No. 2 basketball program. People at UNO and McNeese don't believe it as they defeated the Wave earlier. McNeese win had to hurt as they paid the Cowboys in what they thought was a rent a win. Those results tell me they will continue to refuse our home and home offer.

We don't need to drag down our RPI by playing the Lamers. We already play enough caller dwellers.

I'm fine with him spelling Miller, Washington and others. I'm not fine with him playing instead of a better player to gain game experience. That's my view on every spot.

Stalcup started that first game of the year against Minnesota. The coaches must have seen something preseason to make that call, it just hasn't translated into the games. He is playing D1 ball for the 1st time, maybe he can come around to the speed of the game by the end of the year.

Only issue I disagree with you there is in a situation when the game is out of reach one way or the other. In those instances, bench guys should play. When the game is on the line and they don't need a blow you are correct in that Miller and Washington should play ahead of Plaisance. Foul trouble of course can change things. Note that Miller is often limited in his minutes due to knee issues.

Interesting note about Pepperdine? Last night they lost on the road to No. 7 Gonzaga 92/62 a similar score to our 90/64 victory. That is a twenty six point win vs a thirty point win. Pepperdine held in the sixties in both cases and allowing ninety or more in both cases.

Note Pepperdine was only down 7 at half in the Gonzaga game. Conference play is different of course so they were likely prepared well. Talent differences showed up in 2nd half obviously. In another game involving a former opponent, Georgia won at Auburn by 12. Bulldogs may surprise some in SEC this year

Even at that, he came by way of Mississippi State.
