No need to sit him (whether he can or not). If no development happens...you can't use him. He's got to move on.
It's refreshing to know that we have this problem. Marlin had a Chinese fire drill a few years back and we didn't know if we could fill a roster, much less a starting five. This feels like Jesse Evans all over again with the transfers coming in. It would be great to land one or two every year like Ga State does and keep this program trending upward.
I am excited about the transfers as well. There is one thing I want to watch in particular. I caught a little bit of the South Carolina vs Clemson game the other night and was watching Hasanni Gravett play. Of course we have Stroman who transferred from South Carolina. In a roundabout way we "traded" Point Guards with the gamecocks, I want to see how that plays out for both teams.
With UGA being an anomaly, the ability to hit the three ball this year makes this team successful. The three opens up so many other opportunities and we don't go have to our big man every series.
We did not have a consistent 3 ball person the past few years, which is why people had our number going down the stretch the past two years.
The best, and possibly hardest move made in the off season was Register. We all wanted the local guy to be great, myself included. His transferring out was the best thing for our program and for Marlin. The kid just lost his mojo somewhere along the line and never got it back. LSU-A seems to be a better setting for him, a few good nights have gone his way.
Georgia States roster this 2016-17 6 transfers
2015-16 5 transfers
2014-15 6 transfers
2013-14 4 transfers
2012-14 3 transfers
Just the Ron Hunter years.
That's insane. He's got a system down to a science...
To answer your question, I want him to play just about every game albeit the time he plays will depend on the opponent. Exactly how much time has he had to develop? Sometimes guys just need some game time to get comfortable and develop via playing good competition. I think he can be a shot blocker of some sort and rebounder and if nothing else, a shot changer in the lane. As a matter of fact, he got hurt in the UNO game while blocking a shot.
My comment had to do with no matter what you teach and no matter how hard a player works at their game, you can't teach 7" tall and a player that big you should give every opportunity to play and develop. Now, that shouldn't come at the expense of chemistry and if the guys getting the bulk of the minutes at this point have developed a nice chemistry with one another, you have to be careful how much you insert him into that mix.
Watched UCF/TooLame last night. UCF had a 7'6" player, tallest in NCAA,NBA, who was an absolute stiff. He was out quicked, and outplayed by people he had ten inch advantage on. You can't teach height, but God given quickness and slowness also cannot be thought.
According to CajunMike, TooLame who the NOLA media claims should be the 2nd best in the state stands 3/10.
