Don't let height confuse you....
Teams with 6'6" forwards play taller than him. He's had plenty of time to develop...how much time do you want. He's an "extra body" this year. Next year, he won't factor in at this pace. He's lost out there and plays with very little aggression. Hope he comes around, but I don't see it.
Stalcup has a lot of work to do. He needs to slow the game down because it seems way too fast for him. His offensive game is not D1 material with the exception of a baby hook. He doesn't rebound like a 7-footer should in the Sun Belch. I thought he'd be a shot blocker, but that hasn't occurred either. Some say, he hasn't had enough minutes to prove himself....well whose fault is that? If he can't get on the court, then obviously his skills are extremely limited to "HEIGHT" alone.
---I can't say it is the reason why, but I noticed when P-dine subbed their big dude, that we put Scotty in and he played some good defensive minutes for us---Height is such an advantage with just being close to the bucket with smaller guys having penetrated---if the def cut off can get back for a block on the feed, then the block is a for sure on the penetrator!
If I remember right he didn't even play until his Senior year in high school. He has always been a project, even at the JUCO level. I thought he would be needed this year simply as an extra big to take up space and grab some boards. I didn't think Miller and Brown would be eating up the minutes that they are and I knew Bryce could rebound but didn't think he could put up the Shawn Long type numbers that he is. Turns out Stalcup just doesn't fit in to the game plan that much, especially with Plaisance developing more. He does block shots though, his blocks per minute played are more than double anyone else on the team.
The shot blocking reference that I made was to what coaches said about him. That he'd immediately come in and rebound/block shots. Our team simply does not block shots. We are not an above the rim team, which is ok. We lack the long guards and athletic bigs that typically block and alter shots. This is no shot at Bryce...he's a stud but plays under the cylinder. Next year with the influx of transfers we should see a more athletic team and our blocks should increase....
My harping point is that if Stalcup can't seem to find minutes right now, where will the minutes come from next year?
I'd not give Plaisance minutes instead of Miller, and Washington.
Your 100% correct as of now there looks to be no minutes for him next year. Remember when Stalcup initially signed it was in that period after the 14-15 season when everyone thought Long was leaving after his Junior year. They were trying to just get some size on the roster. When he didn't qualify hardly anyone noticed cause Long was back. He was brought back in this year after it was decided that 3 scholarships would be going to guys sitting as transfers. Once again I think they were just taking a shot because they needed a big and were going to see what he could do.
