Thread: Luke Johnson: Cajuns are close, but they won't turn the corner until they get better at QB

  1. UL Football Luke Johnson: Cajuns are close, but they won't turn the corner until they get better at QB

Somehow, some way, Louisiana was in position to go for the jugular Saturday night against Southern Miss in the New Orleans Bowl.

It didn’t really make a whole lot of sense, which in itself made perfect sense for this Ragin' Cajuns team. It was bad, it was ugly and then it was weirdly good. And ultimately, it came up short at the end.

No quarterback or great running back will be as successful as they could be here until we fix our offensive line. We AT LEAST need to be strong in either pass or run blocking. We could have success as a team if we had absolute road graters but weren't great at pass blocking. We could be successful (with a different offense) if we were stellar pass blockers but not great at run blocking. I'd love to have both at the same time. Being bad at both is a recipe for disaster though, and getting to 6 wins this year is a credit to the grit of our players.

To be honest I'd rather have better pass blockers than road graters. You ain't pulling off no upset over a solid P5 program trying to run them over.

Jennings is just not very good at football guys. Even an LSU alum who would love to see Jennings succeed at a lower level knows this. You are the QB. And you were highly recruited at a national level. You have to play better than this. It's not all on the o-line. If the line is breaking down, you need to scramble out and make a play.

The games Jennings had protection he was good. Do we need a better QB, yes. But we won't see better QB play in this offense with these coaches.

Idk if Jennings is as bad as our offensive line and our offensive coaches. The line showed little spurts throughout the season. Our coaches showed spurts throughout the season. Now that this is all said and done, I would say as a unit, the offense was a C- as a whole. And the Jennings experiment was a bust. If u are willing to take a transfer in at the QB position, he better be a difference maker...and he wasn't for whatever reasons. There is a lot of areas that contribute to this. But now, we have taken in a transfer at the most important position on the field, had a loosing season for the second year in a row, and still have no clue on who our QB is moving foreward. Wasted season on most accounts and it's set this offense back at least one year, possibly 2

    QB coach
    O-line coach
    O coordinator
    DB coach

These are a few of my favorite things

Nothing, but he speaks the truth. Many people don't wanna hear the truth. This is a guy who covers the tigers and has an inside/outside perspective. Jennings does not fit in Hud's system. (If he has a system).

Our OL is weakest link. Jennings not a great passer but that poor guy got pummeled against any team we played with a decent DL.

We need to improve the OL play... big time. I'm like C4L, we need to recruit to and improve on pass blocking OL. I still expected better of AJ. He is perhaps better than what we had on the bench, but he didn't get it done for us. Hud has got to go find a stable of QBs that fit whatever system (?) we are going to operate. I'm proud we fought back and made it a game last night, but Hud has much work to do. He has regressed, regardless of anyone on here's opinion, since arriving at UL.
