Was not a safety. I tailgate and sit with a ref. Players momentum took him into end zone, he did not run into end zone on his own and take a knee.

On the crowd, there was a decent number of UL fans in the end zone with us and the cheerleaders/dancers families. There was one lady that kept giving kids with boom sticks some nasty eyes because they had boom sticks. The adults with them passed them out to the kids with my group and luckily the mean woman moved! We ended up having a good ole time.

On a side note, our pregame is much better and more upbeat that Southern Miss.

Correct on all points, including the touchback/safety call (and ESPECIALLY the pregame observation; I'm very impressed with the band overall, my only nitpick being that I'd love for them to expand the playlist a little bit in the stands). I still don't get the targeting call other than it looked like a hard hit in real time. I didn't hear the analysis or clearly see on the big screen, but I'm assuming our player was the first guy to touch the punt that Hud challenged (or at least hoping, because it definitely hit the USM player afterward).

While I like that reviews are either confirmed/overturned in the case of indisputable evidence and stand as called if they're missing visual proof, a nitpick of mine is that I'm starting to see too many officials lean on "stands as called" in cases where there SHOULD be a clear call of confirmed/overturned, as if they're leaning on letting it stand to have to keep from making the call. Maybe that's just me, but I felt that a couple times Saturday night (and throughout this season, both in college and the NFL).

I agree. Did anyone catch what the announcers were saying about it on TV?

What was crazy about that play was the sequence of events:

    1) Southern Miss spikes the ball with one second left
    2) Southern Miss field goal unit come on the field
    3) Hud calls a timeout
    4) Southern Miss field goal unit come back on the field
    5) Hud calls a second timeout
    6) the refs now say they reviewed the play, no time is left on the clock and the Cajuns will not be charged the second time out

Why was the game clock not reviewed during the first timeout?
What if we would have never called the second timeout?
Anyone else found that sequence of events strange?
That was crazy. It didnt matter in the end but it could have. On a close call like that especially if it might mean points to a team, the refs have to be better than that. 2 TOs before they reviewed it? Imagine if we didnt have the TOs, they kicked a FG and we lost by 3. I know refs make mistakes but come on man. Thats bush league.
