He worked in student-athletic counseling/compliance when I was at UL. He helped schedule our classes, made sure if we dropped something we'd remain eligible, etc.

I guess between his success as an athlete, moral compass as someone pointed out, and experience in his role for student athletes in Danny Cothomhan's (spelling?) office, maybe that's where they believe he could have some value on the committee.

Why? Because he is a nice guy and former athlete? Because he is an alumnus?

I've seen it happen time and time again in business. Someone takes a guy who is great at a particular job and decides that based on that they would be good to lead others in that job so they get promoted to a supervisory role with no background, education, or further training on being a supervisor. It works sometimes but often times it ends up being a disaster.

Leading a Div 1 athletic department in this day and age is more akin to being a business manager, public relations strategist, and a psychologist all rolled into one than anything else. I'll take someone with a degree in sports management with years of experience in multiple settings over an ex player or coach any day of the week.

Can we just give the AD job to Alden?

    Doesn't pay nearly enough.

He will make some well thought out suggestions that should be given serious, serious considerations. Those considerations should be like a president asking for cabinet positions, just do your due diligence and hire them.

I'm thinking he will provide the committee with three very qualified candidates who bring different strengths and weaknesses to the table, and it is up to the committee to accept and choose one of those for Dr. Savoy to accept.

Just say no to the good ole boys "he's one of us" network. We need an impartial outside vision to come in and guide this program into the future. Not someone who's going to do it "this way because that's how it's always been done here."

Two coaches? How about players? I have not heard of that before and to be honest, i can't say that I'm really in favor of having players involved in an AD search.
