Also interesting that 4 of the 7 on the committee are women.
Alden wrote the recommendations and knows what needs to be done here. Alden has national connections. Alden will hopefully recommend that the committee hire someone that he feels is qualified and capable of implementing and finishing his plan. Obviously T-Joe is insisting the Alden plan be implemented so, for the first time, we have everyone pulling in the same direction. I feel good times lay ahead.
The days of promoting a cherished and beloved coach to athletic director are about to be over. The business side of athletics has morphed the athletic director's position into much more than glad-handing supporters, raising money and making schedules. Experience in marketing, TV rights, production of athletic events, logistics, licensing, branding, etc. on a multi-million dollar scale is a must.
I'm hoping that the administration will also give the new AD the leeway to hire an experienced, capable support staff. The greatest AD in the country will still have problems if he/she doesn't have the help they need. I don't know how many people we have on board right now fit that bill, hopefully a few.
