There isn't a financial reason in the world Marlin should be in a salary grade above Robe. Robe brings in more money, has had far more success, and puts time in raising money.

Maybe you're saying that the minimum division one basketball salary is more than Robe's salary. If that's the case it's time to pay Marlin what he's worth. Downgrade his salary to the volleyball level. He can stay or go. You don't even have to have the balls to fire him.
I don't recall the details but I am positive John Brady made more money than Skip Bertman. Market again.

Best thing about last night was the three walkons getting substantial minutes and into the scoring column. Of course playing time for the scholarship freshman was a benefit as well. However they will play in almost every game while the walkons have limited opportunity. Good to see them get rewarded for their practice efforts. In response to another question, many basketball people believe the three transfers sitting out this year can be difference makers to our program. It appears there was a philosophy change and I don't know why that occurred. It may be they were pleased with the Bartley move and decided to go that route as a result. They were somewhat lucky with Bartley as he wanted to come home. Playing with Jonathon Stove who is an ex HS teammate was also a factor.

We are the worst D1 program in Louisiana this year......bring that to the bank

As far as support of the program goes, it is a mixed bag. While some who post here have reduced support, basketball season tickets are up by a good margin this year. I realize the upgraded Dome has the most to do with that. Still, I know people who don't post here who support basketball because they like the way it is run (off the court more than on). Guys like Frank Bartley, Jonathon Stove, Bryce Washington, and Scottie Plaisance are fine young men. Guys like Kasey Shepherd, Steven Wronkowski, and Bryant Mbamalu were as well. Many of those people who continue to support basketball are not happy with the way the football program is being run and are considering reducing support there. That does not mean they are happy with the overall basketball results and most agree potential has not been reached. I would never attempt to tell people who or what to support or not to support. That is a very a personal choice as your time and money are precious. If you don't enjoy following the team for whatever reason , I wholeheartedly encourage you to move on to something else. Life is too short to spend it on discretionary things that are not fun. My main point here is not to assume the entire community views something in a certain manner because of what is posted here.

Could you elaborate on this philosophy change? Thanks!

Let's see how the do against Texas State University on December 1st.

I didn't link up the article to point out what Panhandle State called us. The reason for doing so was to show that they didn't put forth a decent effort to compete with us. I rebutted myself for criticism of the scheduling of that game. It wouldn't have been a 70 point win if Panhandle State made a decent effort. Maybe 30 or 40.

I can't really elaborate on this because I am not sure what caused it to occur. I am not even certain that it was a philosophy change as much as luck guys wanted to come here. This was more of an observation than anything else. Still, it appears these guys have upgraded the talent coming into the program. The signing of Cedric Russell is another indicator that talent continues to improve. Russell's HS coach called into one of the local radio shows recently and commented how impressed he was with the Cajun staff and the way they recruited Russell. Perhaps the fallout from the guys who were not happy here and transferred out has passed.

On the post game radio show, Coach Marlin also commented that he was disappointed Panhandle State did not put forth a better effort. I am sure he would have preferred for his freshman to have to compete to gain a little success. Note, next two home games are part of an exempt tournament. The road games against Montana State and James Madison are part of that same tournament.

Texas Southern is likely a good program to schedule for RPI purposes, as is James Madison. Of our home OOC games, only TSU, La Tech and Pepperdine are acceptable. On the road, both Minnesota and Montana State will likely hurt our RPI, though Minnesota may be neutral because of their B1G schedule.

Thanks Mike! I like the way Marlin runs his program. I'm hopeful this year is good... but I'm really excited about the prospects of next year once those transfers are eligible. Could be the best team in many many years. He seems to be putting it together after a rough start... but he is doing it the right way.
