As much heat as Hud has taken and deservedly so, the problem with Marlin is that he really has not progressed the program AT ALL in his tenure here. Hud made an immediate impact and progressed the program upon his arrival. Marlin has just kind of tread water here and this is the problem most have with him. I don't necessarily have a problem with his coaching style and X and O knowledge but he hasn't been able to recruit to this program and bring any of the state's top talent here. Hell, even WKU just got one of Louisiana's top players and a top 100 player overall and I doubt we were even in the mix.
I don't necessarily look at our collegiate sports as an "investment" or a "product" but it does make it hard to continue buying season tickets and RCAF donations when things are not progressing, especially when costs for said items is going up. This is my problem with the football tickets and tailgating this year. What this program needs is a basketball version of Hud to generate interest. I will go to games this year but I just chose not to renew my season tickets. I guess you could say I was protesting however the protest is only effective if the person or cause you are protesting is aware of the protest. I think if people really want to protest, call or message the AD and acknowledge why you are not purchasing your tickets or making your RCAF payment rather than hoping they get the message because if SF thinks like many here feel he does, he may not be getting that message.
Court time. The biggest thing a young college player could get from this is just playing in a game situation. This helps them get some confidence and develop some chemistry especially with various lineups. Sometimes its better to slide into a season slower and get guys feeling more comfortable and I think something like last night can do nothing but help their confidence, especially after they lost to a very mediocre Montana State team.
Nothing but positives from last night.
Game highlights in the 70 point win.

How much does a Teacher of the Year make in a local high school compared to a mechanical engineer?
In college athletics a basketball coach makes more than a baseball coach.
You sure Brady made more than Skip?
There isn't a financial reason in the world Marlin should be in a salary grade above Robe. Robe brings in more money, has had far more success, and puts time in raising money.
Maybe you're saying that the minimum division one basketball salary is more than Robe's salary. If that's the case it's time to pay Marlin what he's worth. Downgrade his salary to the volleyball level. He can stay or go. You don't even have to have the balls to fire him.
There is a financial reason. He just explained it to you. Different jobs pay different wages. Even the world's greatest garbage man wont make more than a terrible D1 college football coach.
If we "downgrade" his salary we'll be in breach of contract. And then we'll have no head coach AND Marlin will successfully sue us for the rest of the money we owe him.
Marlin makes somewhere between 300 and 400 grand while Robe makes about 200. At that, Marlin is slightly below average of the mid major basketball coaches while Robe is above average for mid major baseball coaches. Of course he should be at the top but that is not the point. It is simply market forces at work. Basketball makes more than baseball because it is a national sport while baseball is not. It is a regional sport. There was not one word about the CWS this year in many periodicals. In fact, on a national basis, women's basketball gets more coverage than college baseball. Don't assume for one minute that my posts here indicates I don't appreciate the importance of baseball to this community. Those athletes keep our name in the college sports eye late into the academic year, albeit a small eye. Just pointing out the facts of the market.
