Freshman Justin Miller leads cajuns with 21. Made variety of inside and outside shots. Another freshman, Evans hit three from long range. Their play was encouraging. Team also outrebounded Gophers. Just like in the past, team missed lots of inside shots, indicative of problems they have had for years finishing at the rim. Major disappointment is giving up 84 points. For a team that is supposed to be improved defensively, that has to be a concern. I understand that defensive assignments sometimes take a while to learn for freshman and we are playing five of them. However, guarding without fouling needs to happen quickly for success to come.

Judging by the box score jay wright had a tuurrrible game. 1-10 from the field with only 2 assists. Although on a positive note he did only have 1 turnover.
We need jay to have a big year for us to have any shot at competing in the sun belt

Jay Wright, Frank Bartley, and Jonathon Stove all had poor games. Freshman did much better than the experienced guys. That is simultaneously a cause for concern and optimism. I realize that is a contradictory statement.

Bartley and Stove each had 3 assists. It looked like Bartley and Jay were switching out at the 1 as both are really combo guards but your point is valid, you have to share the ball more to win.
Of course, you have to score on the play to get the assist and we shot 31% on the night.
A positive is points off of turnovers. We had 18. If the team buys into the idea that defense turns into offense, we should win some games.

My guess is that, as has become common for Marlin's teams, our guard play will be horrendous on the offensive end all year. Washington, like Long last year, will be a double double machine, and Miller will improve both defensively and in rebounding.

We will, yet again, have the best front court in the conference and nobody to get them the ball or shoot well enough from outside to open up the paint. And our coach will have us shooting 15 threes in the second half after going 1 for 12 in the first half. I like our players, but our in game coaching leaves much to be desired.

Evans hit some outside shots in the second half last night. If that continues, maybe it will open up the inside.

Not to worry...this is by far the easiest schedule in college basketball in the next few weeks... should have scheduled some local high schools just to keep peoples interest...probably will win the next six then get blasted as usual in conference...then another group will transfer out and another group will transfer in....no stays here if they are any good
