Maybe we should just change our nickname from Ragin to Accommodating Cajuns because that's all we seem to be doing. Who cares how the -fumble- Monrovians feel. Their identity issues has no bearing on ours.
Call their bluff. There are two CFB teams with Carolina on the front of their jersey and no one bats and eye. Everyone says either Tarheel or Gamecocks and that's it.
The Monrovian already tried this "me too" temper tantrum before. Deep down they know they would lose in a head to head name battle. No one will associates a Warhawk with Louisiana; esp when a pelican is the State bird.
So its time for our Leaders to either push all the chips to the middle of the table or cash out. All this check, double check will just cause your backers to give up. Nobody will put their money behind someone they feel will never pull the trigger.
Still, the fact remains that an institution called Louisiana College does exist, and it has been around for a very long time. When you couple that with the fact that there is also a university named Lafayette that's been around forever, you've got yourself one heck of a mess for an institution who's official name is University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Let's change our name to University of Acadiana and be done with it.
Winning fixes things. As long as you play like someone called UL-L, you'll be called UL-L. Time to step it up no the field and this stupid name nonsense will be solved.
Im not positive this has been the case, i seem to recall louisiana having been used after loss... The rationale is a winning ULL is a threat, keep calling them ULL until threar subsides, a losing louisiana poses no threat. Not saying lose to grt name but just dont assume it will be magically fixed after winninh
Changing our names to Acadiana boat has sailed. Two reasons, first state law won't allow simply Acadiana, it would be ULA, UL Acadiana. Even if you could that would leave a power vacuum that ULM would fill, and they would gladly accept La, UL and on and on.
So you are saying La College trumps La even though they appear in scrolls only during preseason against Div one schools, a total of maybe twice a season, and possible during NAIA playoffs if that.
When Adam Amin and Amanda Scarborough refused to call us Louisiana in the Regionals and Super Regionals, winning did not fix things.
When ESPN refused to call us Louisiana in four straight bowl games, winning did not fix things.
When CBS caved and reverted to Louisiana-Lafayette in the NCAA basketball tournament, even though the scoreboard and stadium announcer both said "Louisiana," winning did not change things.
We could be the national champions and still have this name issue.
Think of Boston College and Boston University. No problem with either identity, mainly because BU does not play major college football. Louisiana College should have no impact on Louisiana, provided we are recognized as Louisiana, which we are not presently.
One thing changing to University of Louisiana at Acadiana would do is give us the ULA acronym, like UGA for Georgia or UVA for Virginia, pretty good company. No mistaking ULA as Louisiana. That would be similar to Minnesota, which officially is the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. Let's find things that will work for us without a wholesale name change.
