Thread: 2016: LA the new "official" abbreviation for stats, crawls, etc

  1. Default Re: LA - The new "official" abbreviation for stats, crawls, etc

Can't do the Geaux UL hand sign with LA.

Under current law we'll never convince anyone to us UL. In addition the various debates about meeting it technically with shadows and same color material on the Lafayette is good academic debate. That debate will never work in the real world, especially by our spineless leaders.

This gets us what we need elimination of that dreaded LL.

Anyone want to take bets on what will be displayed Thursday night?

This is a key component to the Alden Report and while it's going slower than we want, at least it's happening. And I said this when the Big 12 announced no expansion.. This could be the shot in the arm that we need. The delay gives us extra time to act. Maybe admin felt like to much had to be done in too little amount of time (like cramming for a final in 30 minutes).
    Cramming is doable. Trust me!

Not the way it is presented. ALL the plates say Louisiana in the same location at the top. Joe Jackleg from Bugtussle will just assume it's a Louisiana plate. Only people who know the name fight would connect the dots.

"UL Ragin Cajuns" was very clear.

I was wrong. They say "LOUISIANA GEAUX CAJUNS" actually.

I don't see anything on the UL Athletic website regarding the name reference. Seems like they would want to publicize a news release on this. No change yet on ESPN website or AP.

Simple explanation, you have the same people that created the problem now executing the new policy.

Subject: New Brand Standards For UL Lafayette Athletics
    From: Matt Sullivan (matt.sullivan@louisiana.edu)
    Date: Monday, November 7, 2016 8:32 AM

    All,

Periodically, we review our brand standards at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. After our most recent discussions with the President's Office and the Office of Communications and Marketing, it was decided to revise our Athletics first reference and abbreviation effective November 1st, with the commencement of the 2016-17 basketball season. This also affects all other sports teams, including fall 2016 sports, going forward from that date.

Below is the approved references to the University's athletic programs. We would appreciate that your news outlet support and comply with our efforts.

Official University Name - University of Louisiana at Lafayette
    Nickname - Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns
    First Reference - Louisiana
Abbreviation - LA (to be used only for sports statistical uses that require abbreviated characters)

The academic institution will still be abbreviated as “UL Lafayette” and it will continue to not be referenced as ULL.

    We appreciate your assistance.

Nebraska - uses N as their logo, but ticker says Neb.
Michigan - uses M as their logo, but ticker says Mich.
Tennessee - uses T as their logo, but ticker says Tenn.

We haven't defined what we are using for our logo, only our team name, LOUISIANA, and ticker reference, LA.

    Let's compare us to Texas:

    1. TEXAS (University of Texas at Austin)
    2. Longhorns
    3. "T" or "UT"
    4. Tex (ticker)

Here are the things we should use.

    1. LOUISIANA (University of Louisiana at Lafayette)
    2. Fleur de Lis
    3. UL (see below)
    4. LA (ticker)

Use of UL without the city tag is illegal, which is why we went with LA instead of UL. However, look at the logo below with a UL and the state of Louisiana shadow. It is legal. It has the L for Lafayette and the state for Louisiana. Technically, it says ULL. Visually, it says UL. And the state shadow clearly distinguishes it from Louisville. And, since we are emphasizing the FDL, it is on the logo where the city of Lafayette is located within the state. A simple, clear, comprehensive UL logo (with or without the Ragin Cajuns).
Looks like the TECH logo....can't bat them....join them
