If the Sunbelt Conference does not make these wholesale changes for the Cajuns to Louisiana and LA for abbreviation, then we will
be stuck in the same situation.

How can you expect any media member to
honor our request if our own Conference does not.

Within a few hours of Little Rock announcing
their brand name change, the Conference
and all other schools updated.

I don't see this happening for the Cajuns.

So we do this and Monroe starts using UL

remember they had used Louisiana only after the name change

this whole thing just keeps going on and on because of the LSU desire to keep us from UL in 1984

We are such creatures of habit (I sometimes still say LSUNO and I hear others slip to USL just out of habit)

I drove a stick shift all last week and last night I was still trying to clutch with my left foot

the LA keeps away from the Louisville deal and the need to put the extra L after the UL with hyphen or anyway

and don't forget that some, because Lafayette starts with the letters "LA", they will just say Lafayette---Keep fighting on!!!

They don't comprehend nicknames.

If they were close to credible or remotely accurate, use of Warhawks and Cajuns would be illegal.

They don't have a problem with these nicknames:

VA Tech - Virginia Polytechnic University and State College - VT, not VPU
GA Tech - Georgia Institute of Technology - GT, not GIT
Fresno State - Cal State Fresno - FS, not CSF
Nevada - University of Nevada Reno - N, not UNR

LA Tech - known as LA Tech even when they were LA Polytechnic College/Institute

This debate started 32 long years ago in 1984, and it will still be raging (no pun intended) in another 32 years. We should push for a legislative fix immediately. Until we are allowed to officially change our name to the University of Louisiana, we'll always have to deal with those that "correct" others. I'm ready for a legislative debate, followed by a vote. One way or the other, let's get this issue settled once and for all.

With the way state funding versus tuition/other non-state funding ratio is going, we will be a private school eventually, and at the point, we won't have to worry about legislature.

I wonder if we were proactive with the state and told them we would consider going private IF the state donated all assets to the university and allowed it to keep the University of Louisiana name in exchange for the state not having any financial burden in maintaining it. Seems like that would take a sizable financial burden off of the state. That would allow UL to set its own tuition & fees and direct its own course. By way of example, the University of Pennsylvania is a private university that is also an Ivy League school. Is it feasible?
