UL coach hopes to see receivers showcased more at Georgia Southern
3 or 4 games back HUD said he needed to find more ways of getting Ray in the game and the ball in his hands. I don't think he's touched the ball since. Don't believe a word he says it's all coach speak.
8 games in to the season and we're still trying to figure out a game plan..
You need to throw the ball to get it to them. The pass needs to be accurate too. Riles had a ball go through his hands as did Jacquet (I think) on a deep ball. It would have been a tough catch but it went through his hands as he dove.
You can't dink and dunk and hope that your receives to just break one. You have to throw it further than 10 yards down the field more than 3 or 4 times a game. The passing offense is an absolute joke right now, possibly because Jennings has been inaccurate or the coaches are so afraid of turnovers that they insist on keeping everything short. Maybe it's a combo of both.
The jet sweep to Riles shouldn't count as trying to get the ball to him more either.
The very sad thing about this season.. This is the best defense we've played here in a loooong time. Completely waisting it..
There's a feather in our cap.
On a somewhat related note about trying to get the ball to your playmakers. Can Gary Haynes be relieved off his punt returning duties? On 2, maybe 3 occasions on Saturday (I'm sure of 2) the guy fair catches a ball inside the 10. Inside the 10!!! He's got speed, but his decision making while fielding punts has been terrible this year. It cost him an injury earlier in the season and then set back a poor offensive into the shadow of their own goal post. We struggle to move the ball from the 25. Going 90+ yards to score is just out of the question.
Think of the playmakers this offense is currently wasting.
Elijah McGuire
Gary Haynes
Al Riles
Jared Johnson
Dion Ray
Gabe Fuselier
Devin Scott
And many, many more.
