This is an article that is more about promoting the athletes discussed, rather than looking at the numbers historically. This year's class is down somewhat from previous years, so there is not nearly the number of college coaches recruiting in the area. But over the past few years, there have been a number of athletes recruited and signed with UL, Louisiana Tech, Houston, and others including FBS programs.

This thread is getting disconnected from Foote's article. The article is implying we are overlooking the area athletes. It is not saying that the area athletes are overlooking us. We probably have a problem with having to turn away interested local athletes. It is the exceptional local athlete we need to come to UL. And the things that are excellent about UL are great selling points.

When you say "no mention of what we have here"... are you talking about in media articles or just on this site? I think you can expect a fan site to mention the good things once... and the bad things 1000 times... until the bad things get addressed and become good things. If we weren't talking amongst ourselves, it would be different. I seriously doubt members of this site go outside of this site and post our problems on other sites.

I see this site about like I see a football or basketball practice. Ten minutes on the things we did right... and the rest of the day focusing on the mistakes that need fixing. Am I wrong?

The article linked in post #1 was written by Trey Labat, not Kevin Foote!

I'm not reading that into this article J1M, Trey is talking about a number of athletes locally that are not getting looks this year. He is pretty much promoting these kids. nothing wrong with that in my opinion. I think others have jumped on board stating that we have overlooked some kids locally, but I don't see any in this class. JMO

I don't think you and I disagree. He is promoting these kids... and that's ok. But by mentioning UL and Tech, I think he's saying we're overlooking them. "Others" are talking about how HS area coaches don't push kids our direction. And that has nothing to do with this article. The rest of my post was just chatting with Boomer. And he certainly wasn't talking in line with the article.

What is the report on Cox? If this kid is 6'8" as I thought I read and he can obviously sling it a bit, why is he not getting some looks from even lower level G5 schools?

This is his first year starting, he has JV experience beyond that. He is not a kid that will give you much running or scrambling, but he has a decent arm. He could use a coupe of years in JC ball if he wants a shot at an FBS program. He could get some looks at FCS programs, I'd be surprised if he isn't right now.

Most of the guys in any high school program that are recruited are 3 or 4 year starters, they're good enough in the 10th grade to play varsity.

Definitely was impressed with him last night. I think he might be one of those late bloomers who could be a difference maker for someone. 48 touchdowns with only 5 interceptions on the year. His throws last night were on the money and obviously you can't teach 6'8". Your right that he isn't going to run or scramble much and as such I don't think he would fit into Hud's system but someone who runs a pro set style offense could definitely give the kid a shot.
