Other than LSU's class, the signing classes of the D-1 schools in Louisiana are getting very little love from the recruiting services. Why is it OK in the minds of these services for states like Mississippi, Alabama, and Kansas to have multiple D-1 programs, but in Louisiana, there can only be LSU that gets any respect? Our population is as large or larger than these states and they seem to be able to support more than one D-1 program.

My guess would be:

1. Nearly all of the D-1 schools in those states are in larger, more nationally recognized conferences.
2. Nearly all of those D-1 school have had much more consistant success than the D-1 schools in La.

Control is the answer. What does Louisiana have over all of those states mentioned? A huge recruiting base. LSU gets the pick of the litter and controls the entire state. This is the only way they can compete with Bama, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Florida. They want no competition because then they would be alsorans.

Do I need to dig up the email the lsu president sent to all students, faculty, and staff? I think it mentions "flagship" 16 times.
