Thread: Jalen Nixon out for season

There is no doubt that Nixon has been an important member of our team for 4 years. He has been a leader by word and by example, and has always performed to the best of his ability when called upon, regardless of whether it was as a starting QB or as a blocker on punt and extra point teams.

I am among those who has felt that his talents were misused, but that is not a reflection upon the young man, but upon his coaches. I am certain that he will continue to be a positive influence on his teammates, much as Blaine Gauthier was after his injury.

I wish Mr. Nixon well in his future endeavors.

First let me say that I feel terrible for Jalen Nixon and hope that he recovers ASAP from his injury. He is obviously a good kid, team player and leader. I wish nothing but the best for him going forward.

However, with that said, he was not named the starting QB at the start of the season for a reason! As a matter of fact, before the season it appeared that he would have been the back-up QB to Jordan Davis had AJ not transferred.

I don't want to sound cruel, but Nixon's unfortunate injury will possibly prevent Hudspeth from shooting himself in the foot by being hard headed and benching Jennings in favor of the one dimensional Nixon at QB. If Jennings is not getting the job done, I would think that Davis (the original #1 QB) should be the next man up.

You can't understate how important that type of player is to a program. Its a shame his career will end like that.
Yep... and without him we probably don't win the New Orleans bowl against Tulane.

Including that blah blah head coach that moved him to RB... but since he got injured in the spring he couldn't pick up the assignment... so he was reverted back to competing for the QB position.

He didn't get a "bad wrap" with many of our fans. No one ever disliked the young man. We have had issues at the QB position... of which Nixon was an issue. I haven't heard any fan on this forum question him as an exceptional part of the team, his character, his effort, or his leadership.

But yes... it is a shame that his career here ended with injury. And I haven't heard one fan rejoice over it.

Brad McGuire would have done the job just fine.

McGuire was 2 years removed from the program by that time. 100% sure we don't win that game without Nixon, and remember he was 4th on the depth chart behind Haack and Landor just 2 weeks before that.

    I meant Haack.

I'm not sure why so many thought that Nixon was a terrible QB and should have played a different position. All he did was come in and give us a chance to win the game. Dude went 8/13 for 84 yds and rushed 12 times for 58 yds. Opening up the offense at almost 5 yds per carry. NO TURNOVERS and he seemed to be able to hit open receivers with a fair accuracy. That's more than can be said about AJ. All AJ does is throw up jump balls hoping that our receivers make a play on the ball. Nixon could do that all day long. Plus he wasn't scared to run.

Nixon did the same thing against Kentucky and mounted a comeback in that game. Yet Ragin Pagins were still on a crusade to #FreeHaack all season. All blame on Hud on none on the QB seems to be the popular stance around here. I think almost equal fault should be placed on the HC and the QB. I have been questioning Hud's play calling lately, but at the same time, Hud isn't telling AJ to go out there and throw the ball to the defenders.
