So what does the QB's cadence have to do with the linemen's rhythm? Do you think they are running on their own snap count? They are running on the same snap count whether its Jennings or Nixon.

Zeph, surely you have seen o linemen jump when a new qb comes into a game. They do it all the time; new voice, new rhythm (cadence). It's not a Nixon thing; it's a different qb thing at that point in time it can make a difference.

LOL. I've seen linemen jump for many reasons. I've also seen teams run 2 QB schemes and it not throw off their rhythm. I disagree that having Nixon inserted will change the way a lineman blocks. In fact, many teams run various formations from the shotgun to under center which would, hypothetically be as big a factor as having another QB in. His assertion that having Nixon in the game would cause a false start or better yet, a bad snap, is not logical IMO. We had over 10 penalties against Boise. I don't think any were when Nixon came in to play QB.

---mass x velocity------probably need some physics help on this---but on a sneak hardly any options with little forward speed and on the deeper snap you have the movement forward at a greater speed and the option to change the impact point----Nixon was 3 for 3 on rushes against Boise but had a bad snap and he slipped on the next 2 times

Hud is right and I've screamed it for a year now but everybody knows exactly what's coming when he's in the wildcat which is a run up the gut. You have to be able to throw with him and in particular, to the TE who is also forgotten in our offense. These things would open up short yardage so much more. Hopefully Hud is finally seeing this and adjusts.
I agree with your ideas on play calls (especially play action to create elements of misdirection and options to keep the defense honest). What I don't agree with is using Nixon as the QB in those scenarios. You're trying to accomplish getting more complexity into the short yardage play... but you're asking a guy to come in off the sidelines to do it. Saying that "he has those skills" isn't the issue. You have an offense marching down the field, and for what good reason, aside from being inclusive of Nixon, is he coming in the game? I think we maintain many more options with Jennings.

If Hud wants to explore better deception on short yardage and thinks his best QB is Nixon... then he should do it. What I don't want factored into the decision is some kind of obligation to give Nixon that role. He/and or JD need to come in for mop up duty (if that ever happens)... but with the supposed wildcat we use Nixon for kind of being a bust... if you're thinking of adding more twists to short yardage... the logical choice is to keep AJ in.

Just think how many more penalties we'd get if we added cadence issues to this OL! I think this cadence issue is a very marginal argument. It may or may not be something to consider... but the bigger considerations massively outweigh it.

False starts based on cadence tend to occur with the QB who has the harder count.

(I don't know where either QB fits in that regard.

With two QB, not jumping requires O-Line interpretation perfection on 4 different count cadences.

He seems to slip and trip a lot.

You don't think different QBs have a different rhythm for calling for the ball to be hiked?

    Down.....set.....Omaha.....HIKE!

Whatever it is there have been several times over the last 1.25 seasons when Hauck / Jennings was driving the ball down the field and Hud puts in Nixon on a short yardage play and someone on the o-line false starts.

Am I crazy or have others noticed this also?
