Thread: Cajun coach explains PAT decision against South Alabama

  1. Default Cajun coach explains PAT decision against South Alabama

Mark Hudspeth went for 2 when he admittedly should have gone for for 1

The Graduate Assistant was obviously distracted by the APC.

One year UT was playing NC State ( 2 of my least favorite teams ) , the GA responsible for "the chart" screwed up and said go for 2 when it should have been kick the extra point. They failed on the conversion and went on to lose the game. Later Mack Brown was livid over the mistake. The offensive coordinator Greg Davis stepped up to take the heat from Brown though it was not his fault. The GA was Tom Herman. The moral of the story is coaches (even very good ones) can screw up the most simple things.

Stop giving the coaches passes for their bush league decisions!!

Also...you made way to much sense in your post to pass muster in this place!!

But the ironic thing is; we did call a timeout on that play. And still ran it.

is there really that much data on the "chart" that it couldn't be memorized?

also why does the chart need to be changed from year to year, if info is the same?

According to HUD, they did not use the same chart they used the past few years. Maybe they added some more information, I am not sure how complex the chart is.

I am completely for coaches making mistakes during games errors in scheme as the game is not perfect and its impossible to be completely prepared for every single thing that can go wrong in a game. Having said that, this is one of the smaller details that are amongst the most important and can come back to kill you in a close game. I have no idea how a head coach or one of his key assistants is not calling the shots on whether to go for an extra point or two point conversion. As someone said earlier, I can even understand the confusion and then correcting through a timeout but the fact is we called the TO and STILL ran the play. Out of all the things that people criticize HUD about on this site, I'm surprised that this isn't making bigger waves because its just scary to be honest.

---Well just think about the situations that bring up the decision to kick the FG, fake the FG, go for it (pass or run) , punt, or punt from your normal formation!!!
