Thread: Hudspeth doesn't want McNeese State every year

  1. UL Football Hudspeth doesn't want McNeese State every year

UL head coach Mark Hudspeth suggested after being asked that he has no interest in the Ragin’ Cajuns continuing their series with McNeese State – the two teams played every season from 1951-86, but have met only twice since then – on an annual basis.

    Why not?

I understand where our program is at but in reality our program should be beyond schedule FCS schools to draw attendance. We should be at a point where more teams like Boise come to our place.

Absolutely. We should never play an FCS program unless we have game against an FBS opponent fall through.

Yep-done with the FCS games. Terrible for overall look of the university. I know a lot of teams play them and it's a good chance to get a win and have a lot of guys get playing time, but I'm just done watching this mess.

Get someone on board who can schedule effectively. We do not have this currently, unfortunately. Our admin WILL work to get this series back on an every other year at the very minimum.....sux a55 man

    Disagree.

FCS games serve a very good purpose. As witnessed Saturday here and in refineryville, they offer you a chance to get right and improve. Also, in the specific cases of McNeese and Southern, they are money makers.

That's fools gold. If you need to beat up a minor just to feel tough...you aren't very tough.

This. We've learned very little about our team playing 2 different extremes.

I don't think any said "feel tough" so I'm not sure who you are replying to, but I see both sides of the equation.

Every once in a while I would rather a get things straight game than a reeling on my heels game.

Don't disagree with the premise it allows you play a number of athletes and improve. It's easy money for an administration that is unwilling to spend the money generating revenue is others they should have been doing all along. Also, is this the type of opponent fans are willing to spend money on to play at Cajun Field.

The reason you guys (and most other FBS teams) schedule a FCS team is money. You can pay them cheap and have that extra home game every year to make extra money. If you schedule another FBS team, you either have to pay them a lot more money to come just once or you have to schedule a home and home which means you lose that extra game every other year.

Works the same as us scheduling a Div II team every year for the extra home game.

It is all about the money.

It's not. It's about extending you farm hands a life line for your failed Jolly Blanked. The P5 is beginning to move that way, so should we.

Doc, there is no doubt that money is some of the reason and the fact that any FBS program is allowed to count one FCS victory towards bowl eligibility. The P5 conferences are going away from scheduling FCS programs, but the G5 will always schedule FCS programs, the question is which ones and how often? Louisiana Tech hasn't scheduled McNeese since 1990? We've played McNeese in 2007 and now 2016, time to look at others in future scheduling.
