Yeah, if we are such a joke, then why do they have such envy of all that we are? From a recent post on their site:

"ULL won their fbs bowl game . ULL participated in the NCAA basketball tournament. ULL softball is in the World Series of softball after hosting a regional and super regional. ULL baseball is ranked no1 in country and hosting a regional this weekend. Let me tell you this I hate ULL even more than lsu and I don't like lsu. What I want to know is why couldn't this type of success happen at McNeese??? Is it because we don't play in the fbs in football therefore we are not in a big enough conference to acquire enough money to succeed. I do believe that if we played ULL in conference like we used to, neither one of our stadiums is big enough to handle the amount of fans that would want to go. Is it because their are too many lsu fans in lake Charles and no matter what McNeese does lake Charles will not support it ??? Very possible because the media both print and television love them some lsu, you would think we are living in Baton Rouge because of the extensive coverage. Why the people in lake Charles are so proud of a college and team 3 hrs away instead of their own college I will never understand. ULL seems to have found success, so maybe they are a model that we should follow to see more college and city pride here. Who knows it may lead to more economic success, can you imagine lake Charles hosting a softball or baseball regional???? Why not us????"

Apparently you never read the business section of any newspaper-LC has received the largest industrial project in the world. Not south La or even the US but the world, it will not be a "ghost town" anytime soon.

True. But at least this poster resolves his angst into "What do we do with ourselves to be better?". He hates us. So what? He, at least, recognizes, momentarily or not, that it isn't about what McNeese should do to limit UL... it is about what they should do to better themselves. I believe they have greater hurdles to leap than they think. They should probably study the difficulties ULM is having in the FBS, than look at our recent successes and rationalize their potential, by comparison.

Regardless, I'd rather see other state schools strictly evaluate their situations, than concern themselves with what we call ourselves.

You are free to drink all the lattes you would like. I'm free to laugh at the self delusions of a bunch of old men who refer to a university they attended more than 30 years ago as "our" university. As if you are given a second thought by the administration or UL Board.

I think a lot of truth was exposed in this post. His views likely speak for a lot of MSU fans who publicly say otherwise. My biggest frustration with the Authement years is the image problem we had because he wouldn't let athletics gain any traction. I don't think McNeese fans admire us, but they see opportunities afforded to us when our teams win that they wish they had. If the New Orleans Bowl is as meaningless and rinky dink as they say it is, why did last year's game draw 10 times the crowd that the meaningful FCS championship playoff game they hosted did? They had something to play for and we didn't?

We don't talk about LSU fans talking down to us. We hammer their tank top fans. So do McNeese fans. We're pretty confident in our own situation right now. But, if you come on here getting snooty about LSU alumni owned companies building plants in Lake Charles... and somehow believe "that" upgrades McNeese (or Lake Charles)... you're going to get a reality check. Contractors are going to trash your city. Then, when the plants begin polluting Lake Charles at a greater rate than now, that temporary economy is leaving you. It takes 10,000+ contractors to build (modular - not "stick build") the GTL and LNG plants over the stretch they'll eventually fund. And it's going to screw Lake Charles. Only a few companies are going to open offices in LC (just to win the contracts) but 98% of the contractors are leaving when the plants are built. And, the professionals sure are heck aren't staying. With more plants, it actually decreases any major company from bringing professionals into LC. Everyone in the professional process industry business plans only to bring the professional resources from Texas and BR, then leave. Leaving behind a contractor hyped up support infrastructure that will produce more problems for LC than benefits. LC will unintelligently usher in few permanent plant people, that they think is great, over the next 5-10 years, but will continue to get rejected by other businesses... except more low to medium service operators. Lafayette will become even more attractive for diverse firms to relocate... a clean, forward thinking community, where a fantastic culture supports excellent lifestyles.
